Stitches after birth

Hi everyone. I gave birth 2 days ago and had 2nd degree tears. Today at home I noticed a little string hanging down after the midwife had just visited. I rang her after she left and she said it sounded like it was just a little tail to the stitches as it’s a continuous stitch and sounds like nothing to worry about but she’ll check me again in a few days if I’m still worried.
Has anyone had this before and does anyone have any experience of their stitches coming undone? Thank you!

From your description it sounds just as the midwife described, the end of the stitches and therefore nothing to be concerned about. I’m sure you’ve been given good advice about taking care of stitches. Most importantly, keep them as dry as possible to help prevent infection.

Obviously if you have pain or you’re feeling anxious about them, ask the midwife to call back to see you.

I don't think it's anything to be concerned about either, but make sure the midwife does check you in a few days. My stitches came undone slightly and the midwife had said to just be careful not to be over exerting myself and to make smaller movements when walking. Keep it clean and dry. Congratulations! X

Thank you both! That’s reassuring. I think I was over doing it a bit yesterday so I’ll make sure I don’t tonight. Really appreciate it x

Glad you’re reassured but please don’t overdo it! As a mum to 3, I realise looking back that I did too much after their births. You’ve been through a lot and your body needs to recharge. Congratulations and best wishes.

@Honeysuckle16 Yes this is also my third, I have a 2 and 3 year old so it’s difficult to try and take it easy isn’t it, but I know now that I must! Thank you x
