Midwives rock!

Can we have a thread about how great midvies can be, cos lot of the time, you only get to hear about people's bad experiences - a bit like when you tell someone you're going to the dentist!
I had both my girls at the Caerphilly Birth Centre (which I think was on Gavin & Stacey on Sunday!!) and I can't praise them enough. The midwives were amazing, it was all very relaxed and their whole attitude was very non-interventional and laid-back. I was totally encouraged to do what I felt was right to do at the time, and they really kept in the background the whole time, so it felt like my girls came into the world with only me and dh to greet them.
I know not everyone is lucky enough to have total attention when they're in labour, but let's be positive about what they can do, cos I think they're great!

I had the worst time getting DS3 breast feeding and my community MW was faultless in helping us get going.. I wrote to the trust to tell them just how fantastic she was!

I was lucky enough to have Annie and Tina from South London Independent Midwives and Alice and Melody from Birth Rites as my midwives and they were all fab!

My community MW that looked after me when I was pg was brilliant. She also took over my post-natal visits even though another MW was down to do it. I just wish she had been around for my labour (I saw just about every other midwife in Enfield!).

I had greaty support in labour and my experience promted my desire to become a midwife! I start my training in september

I have only had great midwives. All at Ninewells in Dundee. All so very helpful and cheery.

My midwife caught dd2 as she popped out when I stood up to get into the ambulance as I sreamed "somethings coming out!!!" - god knows what I thought it was!

My community midwife is so laid back and calming I just hope she's on call for my planned homebirth-due today! She also has MBE for her work with the travelling community! My previous 2 deliveries left me in complete awe of the work these women do. No wonder the French for midwife is 'sage femme'-'wise woman'!

My midwives in Llantrisant were wonderful. In fact, one of them was a student, but you could never tell from her competence and great bedside manner. And the wonderful m/w who showed me how to hand express colostrum. That was invaluable help, because it made me believe I could breastfeed successfully this time around.

lovely midwives with both pregnancies, all community care wonderful ladies, made me genuinley sad when I heard one had gone on long term sick a few months ago.

My midwives from Wythenshaw hospital, Manchester were fab. I had a homebirth and Suzy just let me get on with it and when Jenny came to assist they were just wonderful.

Jenny even sent me a wedding card and gift when I got married 2 years later, I hadn't seen her since the birth!!

I had a midwife called suzy who came to see me after ds was born (c-section). She said I could eat green and blacks instead of taking iron tablets. She also instructed my dh to make me go to bed once she had gone and not to get out again for the rest of the day. I hearted her

The caerphilly birth centre has a great rep, just that bit too far from us though.

My midwife with ds1 literallys aved our lives by insisting there was something wrong with us when the main unit tried to turn us away- I had eclampsia! And the MW at a local hospital who accompanied in the ambulance with full cardiac monitors etc after her shift ended to make sure I was ok- won't ever forget her.

With the last 2, we had a different surgery but the MW there were amazing too, lent me their entire la leche library to help with BF and just generally were great. Indeed, this one (have moved again, in south wales now) is also great- has been very supportive about the idea of a home birth despite hospital opposition.

I had the same community m/w with both my pregnancies & she was wonderful (wish I could have had her for the deliveries)

Also one wonderful m/w in hospital first time round who sat with me for 2hrs (after finding me in tears) helping me get a good latch with DD so I could b/f - I swear if it wasn't for her I would have given up (the others were all "that looks fine" & poof were gone...

All the midwives I saw last pg and this have been brilliant, and mw Elspeth who delivered my DD was fab- left me to it when I was fine, came straight away when needed (didn't realise 1 on 1 midwife not the norm until finding mumsnet!). Got told to call when ready to try feeding, so did everytime and got good help- the bestest from an auxiallary I could still hug every time I see her ( she must think I'm mad but i do resist! I work round the corner from the unit). I wrote to say how fab everyone was last time, and hoping get a familiar midwife for my homebirth this time, but reckon everyone so far has been great.
They do such an amazing job which can be in such diffucult circumstances (and must admit, with some of us being very weird too!) I am utterly in awe of anyone who can do it (even when I am pg,I find pg ladies at work can be strange- and they probably find me even stranger!!) and bow down to their greatness!!
