Can the amniotic fluid test be false negative?

Yesterday morning as I sat down to give my son a boob I felt a trickle run down my leg. It didn't smell of wee. I've had watery discharge for weeks and never done this before. I didn't get to hospital till the evening so was over 7 hours from the leak to them swabbing me. My baby is head down so I think she kept the hole blocked as didn't leak anymore. And just the fact I've got a shit tonne of discharge it won't have picked up the leak. And won't have been any waters there as it only happened the once.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Thank you

This happened to me, it was urinary incontinence from a uti. I'd never had urinary incontinence in my life (not even during/after my previous pregnancy) and the wee didn't smell normal so I was convinced it was amniotic. Thank goodness it was just wee and they gave me antibiotics

I definitely don't have a uti. Glad you got sorted

It's always been picked up as amniotic fluid for me but it was more than just a trickle and it continued to happen .

Unfortunately I only had a small trickle and just the once.

With my son they picked it up as all my back waters went

I had a gush a week before my induction, they insisted it wasn’t waters it was wee or ‘discharge’, to this day I’m adamant it was neither because I was soaked

That's ridiculous. You know your own body etc. Did they not bother to swab? I've been having contractions. Literally 18 in an hour and keep getting more in the hour as days go on. Spoke to them on the phone and they just said braxton hicks. I was thinking unless you've hooked me to a monitor you can't really just assume that.

Did they send your urine sample to the lab? Utis have different symptoms in pregnancy.

If your leak was a one off and not constant dribbling, and you've tested negative for amniotic protein, that does sound like urinary incontinence to me tbh. Which you can get with or without a uti

Ahh thank goodness, great news @blackpanth ! Gosh that sounds like a short labour!

Just a few days younger than my dc2, he was born last week :) hope you're both doing OK! Xxx

Congratulations! Only reading this now as I opened the thread on the day you started it but forgot to come back! My tests were negative but my scans showed less amniotic fluid, I thought I had another thrush infection due to all the extra ‘down there’....as it turned out I was slowly leaking fluid and my little girl was born at 37 weeks by c section. She’s a crazy 18 month old now!
