Clothing on the postnatal ward?

Probably a random question, but what did people wear while on the postnatal ward? Is it all, or mostly, nightwear like pyjamas and nighties? I know from experience that hospitals tend to be boiling, so I am thinking perhaps nightshirts and (big) shorts over maternity pants + pad, maybe with a dressing gown for moving about - also conscious that visitors will be around.

Wondering whether my cheapie Disney nightshirts from Primark will look out of place Blush but equally, don’t necessarily want to bring in my nicest pyjamas when there will be a lot of potential mess. I’m due a c-section and hoping to breastfeed, if that makes any difference.

Thank you everyone, this has been so helpful.
Have ordered some of the H&M vests, and a long cardigan from Vinted Smile
I remembered that I have a set of shorty maternity pyjamas that my mam bought me. Will probably end up chucking them and a nightie into the bag. No doubt I’ll end up overpacked!

I took 2 button down nighties that came to just above my knees, plain black because of bleeding etc, a couple of pairs of loose kind of joggers from H&M but they were a thin soft material not thick like most joggers. Big full on black maternity knickers, a couple of loose T-shirts and a light dressing gown and some fluffy socks. I gave birth in May and the ward was actually really cool at night which was a nice surprise.

Just here to praise H&M maternity vests - I gave birth to DS1 six years ago and most of them are still going strong! Having said that, baby #3 is due in a couple of months and I think I'll treat myself to some new ones. Good luck, OP!

You need tops/nighties that have buttons down the front for bf.
