C section

Does anyone know if you get a preop assessment for an elective c section? And do you still need to do a Covid test etc. I know this is cancelled for other departments but not sure about maternity.

Exact procedures will vary hospital to hospital, so the best way to get an accurate answer would be to ask your midwife rather than mumsnet. Yes, you will have a pre-op assessment which is usually done the day before your c section date. I went to the “c section lounge” (ie waiting room) the day before the my booked section, and saw an obstetrician and then an anaesthetist. They took my medical history, discussed the procedures (c section and anaesthetic), what to expect, and potential risks, before signing consent forms. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions about anything you don’t understand, which is important for informed consent. It probably wont be the same obstetrician and anaesthetist who are doing your procedure the next day but that’s ok! They no longer do Covid tests in any unit I’m aware of, but just ask them about it if you’re worried.

Good luck! I am so happy I had a planned C section second time round and felt so well looked after and safe the whole time.

I’m having a c-section soon and have a pre-op assessment. PP details it well. In my case it isn’t the day before as section is booked in for 27th so there aren’t any pre-op appointments the days before I guess due to Christmas.
