Getting impatient - 41 weeks and 2 days - FTM

Looking for some encouragement, I’m getting abit anxious now as every little sign or symptom I keep thinking “could this be it?”

I haven’t lost my mucous plug to my knowledge, I have felt sick on and off the past couple of days, had trapped gas/crampy like pain for a couple of hours at night then it dies down enough to make me feel sick. Continuous lower back pain and some tightening/tingling top of bump and back. So i feel like I’m having signs but nothing happening.

Midwife appointment tomorrow and I’ll be having a sweep - I’m not looking forward to it at all and I feel like it’s my only option before Induction (I know I can refuse but I’m so fed up now and getting pissed off with numerous people asking if I’ve had him) As if I wouldn’t tell close family something was happening!!

Did any of you just randomly start and what did the contractions feel like? So far I feel the period pain feelings aren’t really anything just an annoyance 😆

Walk as much as you possibly can

Pineapples, curry and sex did fuck all for me

Good luck!

I never had any warning that labours coming, I just start having light cramps about 10 minutes apart and they stay pretty mild until boom I'm in active labour.

My second came spontaneously at 41+3 so don't give up hope.

I also didn't lose my mucus plug until I was in active labour and water broke at transition both times - heavenly pressure release!

Bounce on a birth ball and watch a funny or heartwarming film - and repeat.

Speak to your midwife about Midwives Brew and Castor oil. Both very effective. Just need to use properly.
I had a friend who used Modwives Brew at 41 weeks and had her baby within 48hours. It works for majority of people. I was.prepared to-do the same but LO showed up at 39w 5D

@MixedCouple What’s midwives brew? I’ll skip the castor oil though! Grandma had a bad time years ago ahaha.

Ive done loads of relaxing and napping, bouncing on my ball, cleaning, mopping the floors and today is my midwife appointment (wanted to avoid a sweep but I feel like I haven’t much choice now need to get things going). Atleast it will give me an insight to see if I’m anywhere near labour but I will be asking her not to do it if I’m not very favourable!

Please don't use castor oil! It can cause fetal distress. Good luck for the birthSmile unfortunately a lot of things that people swear worked for them could well just be coincidental.

luckbealadytonight · 01/12/2023 09:05

Don't have a sweep if you don't want one, it's never a good idea to have someone in your vagina when you're not really sold on the idea (in life and pregnancy lol).

Your baby will definitely come out! Sweep or no sweep.

Seeline · 01/12/2023 09:24

I got to 40+12 with my second with no signs of her arriving until my waters broke in the middle of the night. Even then I couldn't feel any contractions for a few more hours.
I was running around after a 2yo throughout that time.
I had eaten an awful lot if fresh pineapple during the day in desperation and then my waters went that night......
Hope he arrives soon 😁

Well I’ve had it, she had a good root around 😂, she said cervix very thin could feel his head and got around his head with 2 fingers but said only fit one finger but I must be very thin and stretchy for her to get 2 in, had a little bit of blood and I’d say it wasn’t really painful i could just feel a ton of pressure in my pelvic area!

I even got given an oil with lavender and clary sage in it to try rubbing on acupressure points, she really wants me to have the baby in their birth centre instead of the hospital (I’m all for it) 😂 she’s been so good, I’ve been booked in for an outpatient induction on Monday if all else fails. Just waiting for a phone call for a time, hopefully I don’t get to that stage

Castor oil has many studies on it and if taken correctly is safe. If you look up on Youtube "Care for Little ones - Castor oil" they use scientific evidence to ahow how effective and safe it is.

I used Flaxseed oil similar properties and had no bad side affects.

Midwives Brew to Induce Labor: Recipe, Safety, and More

Midwives brew is a castor oil-based drink said to induce labor. We'll tell you what's in it and if it's safe and effective.

I know it might sound a bit “out there” but do you feel ready to give birth? First time around I was so scared, I think part of me just assumed it would never happen despite being absolutely gigantic! I had two sweeps. My second one i got home and felt weirdly peaceful, like I was ready for it to happen and was in an accepting frame of mind. I went into labour later that night. DC1 arrived at exactly 42 weeks. I was booked in for an induction on the day of her birthday.

Anonymousm · 02/12/2023 22:44

@MummyJ36 I don’t think you ever feel ready really especially when it’s your first as I’ve no idea what to expect or how I’ll handle it, if you know what I mean!? I’ve been having early labour contractions I think for a good 7 hours today roughly 10 mins apart lasting nearly a minute with my tens machine on and it’s really helped. I think for me it’s the not knowing if your in labour or not for definite, that’s what’s made me more fed up thinking is this it or is it in my head? 😂 I’ll be so mad if I sleep on the sofa sat up and it dies down, not comfortable led down in bed!

I felt more relaxed weirdly after I started getting what I think are early contractions aswell because it sort of made me feel like great something is getting going

Oh absolutely, I remember that feeling very well. You sound more grounded than I was at that stage 🤣! I just meant that I was in quite a lot of denial that an actual baby was going to come out of me for the majority of my pregnancy but after my second sweep I felt a level of acceptance and peace that I was ready for this to happen and that’s when my labour kicked in.
Early contractions sound really positive. And great that you’re tracking them. If you can get some sleep I’d hugely recommend it although I understand how easy that is to say when you’re not in the thick of it.
Failing that, I’d recommend watching a funny film and having a glass of wine. It really can’t do any harm at this stage !

Anonymousm · 02/12/2023 23:11

@MummyJ36 Oh yeah, I still can’t believe I’ve got a baby ready for coming out of me it doesn’t really feel real til he’s here haha! I’ve shoved a film on now, eating some biscuits because I’m hungry and set myself up for the night to fall asleep down stairs & sent partner to bed 😆😂. I’m best left alone when I’m focusing and hopefully I’ll fall asleep for abit, I’ve got tens set very low so it’s helping and a hot water bottle! Trying to keep calm and relaxed to allow things to happen!

funny you say wine, had a couple of small glasses last weekend as midwife told me to relax and actually advised me to have one 😂. Given up now tracking, I’ll probably know when it’s full blown labour then I’ll start tracking again!

How is it going @Anonymousm ?

I'm almost 41 weeks, sweep last Thursday at 2cm dilated and cervix thin and stretchy. Lost mucus plug Friday. Still no contractions 😅. Induction Wednesday but I'd like him to come on his own if he can!

Anonymousm · 03/12/2023 17:56

@FlyingHighFlyingLow Losing hope 😕, had a long night of drifting off to sleep then woke up by cramping/contraction, kept tens on all night and I’m sure it’s really helping me I’ve not taken it off. However I’m just getting sporadic pains no rhythm to them really, just feels like a back spasm and hips being squashed so far and abit of tightening in tummy, nothing that is unbearable. So unless something kicks off from now until 8am I’ll be awaiting a phone call to be induced from 9.30am tomorrow morning 😬 Really wanted to avoid it but I’m sick of waiting now and not knowing if I’m actually progressing or if this is even early labour!
