I am 10 days overdue which is a miracle considering I was on the labour ward at 22 weeks into the pregnancy because my waters were breaking. My other 3 babies weren't full term 2 at 36 weeks, my third my waters broke at 28 weeks and she was stuck inside me for 2 weeks without water before she came out so it was no surprise that my 4th would be early but now!!!what can I say!!! I have tried everything, had 2 sweeps which didnt even result in a twinge, twice had cod liver oil (yummy!!), tried aromatherapy and now on the pineapple. Done the obvious which got me pregnant in the first place and tried spicy foods but she just wont shift!! I'm still working so am keeping very active. PLEASE HELP, GETTING DESPERATE especially as its my 1st chance of having a home birth and if I have to be induced then I'm stuck in hospital!!!

Good luck !!!!! Your baby likes living inside you.

Mine was 12 days overdue and only came out with an emergency C-Section ,after I tried everything you talked about and was induced twice. I am not taking any chances, I am 3 months pregnant now and will have an elective this time.

reflexology or acupuncture are supposed to help

having a sweep each day for 3 days in a row is supposed to help too

let me know if you find anything that works as I will most likely be in same situation in 8 weeks time

I have it on good authority that serious nipple tweaking sessions do work!!

I agree with sex. As active as possible, with at least one orgasm, all my babies were late. The least late was brought on by acupuncture and loads of dirty sex !

Kazza - I went 16 days overdue with my DS3 .... tried all of the above - the cliched truth is they will come when they are ready !

I didn't want induction as also wanted home birth. Ask for monitoring if you want...they can't refuse - but you have to be pushy sometimes.

DS3 was born at home in 45 minutes from first contraction. Midwife just about got up the stairs to see hime arrive !

Shanti shanti .... wishing you patience and a happy birth

sympathys Kazza went 14 days over with dd 3 6 weeks ago tried all above none worked and home water birth went out of the window. However induction was fine 1 lot of gel and contractions started straight away.
Good luck and if your desperate swallowing semen is suppose to help

LaidbackinEngland · 09/03/2008 21:24

ps ...also had acupuncture. Think this helped.

totalmisfit · 09/03/2008 21:31

a long walk somewhere pretty (with at least one other person who knows what to do should you go into labour, naturally) i tried this with dd and went into labour 2 days later.

also tried:

A whole pineapple cut into chunks

A big curry (all on different days mind you)

not sure how advisable the last two are, or if there's any evidence at all to back them up btw

rachaelsara · 09/03/2008 21:34

It's supposed to be castor oil, not cod liver oil, but it's VERY DANGEROUS, so avoid it.

T2M · 10/03/2008 09:46

Please no castor oil it dehydrates you avoid at all costs. Plus you not only dealing with contractions but cramps from the diarrhoea it causes, sometimes thats also all that happens.

If you are very desperate what lilyloo says is very true. Have you read about the MN yoghurt on the other thread

Lilyloo: EEEWWWWW

Do you know anyone in there right mind who could stomach swallowing when they are heavily pregnant??

I would try break dancing before I gave that a go YUK.

I was 10 days over with DS2 and DS3 I was induced with DS2 but was adamant I wasnt being induced again so looked up every possible site there was on starting labour.
Tried the pineapple, currys (lots of them), walking up hills, sex, bogging raspberry tea, none of them worked.
I bought clary sage oil and put it in bath and the only effect it had was to make me vomit(IT STINKS)
My contractions started 2 days before I was due to be induced when I FOOLISHLY climbed on a chair to get something of the top of the kids wardrobe, I stepped down and got a a stinging pain in my back(all my babies have been btb) I knew what it was the second I felt it and although I WOULDNT recommend it to anyone and I did get a bulling from the midwife I was so glad I didnt have to be induced. Maybe walking up and down steps might do the trick? Hope you have baby soon anyway. Good luck

I tried everything mentioned here to get my baby moving and nothing worked! Even got contractions going with the castor oil a week before, but they stopped! (I really wouldn't recommend this at all - really unpleasant.) I finally went into labour at 43+3 and had the home-birth I had planned. So hard waiting though. Keep fighting for your home birth and be patient - it really is worth waiting for!! Good luck.
