Caesarian Urban Myth?

I'm not sure if this is true, partly true or a load of old rubbish, so would be interested to hear what you think.

Is it true that you're more likely to have a c-section if you've got small feet? I think it has something to so with a correlation of size of feet and size of pelvis.

I have size 4 feet!

I thought foot size thing was in reference to man's antomy, not woman's.

5 1/2 - two sections. neitherhad anything to do with the size fo my pelvis.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/03/2008 21:13

Unless you have had a vitamin D deficiency during early life, or rickets it's complete bollocks to assume that your pelvis will be too small for a baby to come out of it.

Although smaller feet are easier to get past the consultant's defences when you kick him in the nellies for suggesting you might not to up to childbirth

Dottydot · 09/03/2008 21:18

Ahem. Size 10 feet - and a section

Lulumama · 09/03/2008 21:20

many other proven contributory factors to c.s

immobility in labour for one

size 5 feet and one c.s and one v.b!

bundle · 09/03/2008 21:20

5'3", size 6 feet, 2 sections

stuffitllama · 09/03/2008 21:22

on a grumpy note

my consultant suggested an x ray during early pregnancy to check the size of my pelvis and the size of my feet came up in the conversation

sod

had a vbac

Lulumama · 09/03/2008 21:23

i had an MRI scan after my c.s to check the size of my pelvis. perfectly normal size

JossStick · 09/03/2008 21:45

I heard that if you are having trouble delivering vaginally the doctor may ask what your DH / DP's shoe size is to gauge the size of the baby.

Sounds bollocks to me though as it doesn't depend on the size of the bub whether you can deliver or not.

I have a friend who is TINY TINY and delivered twins vaginally.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2008 22:02

doctors dont do cpd on expected delivery mode and shoe size clinical outcomes

LynetteScavo · 09/03/2008 22:09

My midwife did ask me my shoe size when I was pregnant with DS1, though.

Size 7, and he still got stuck and needed a vontouse delivery.

snowleopard · 09/03/2008 22:24

Size 8-9 feet, DS got stuck, Caesarean. I think it was actually a) DS's massive head and b) cervix not dilating - so not actually to do with my pelvis anyway.

Rohan · 10/03/2008 14:10

Size 4 feet, home birth for number one, no tears.

I'm thinking it's a load of old bollocks. I can't believe there are MWs out there putting shoe size on antenatal notes. Unless they want to buy you a scrummy pair of shoes asa welcome-to-not-being-pregnant-anymore gift, I would say it's fairly irrelevant!

Carnival · 10/03/2008 14:13

I'm size 3-4, had a vag birth.

cutekids · 10/03/2008 14:16

i have tiny feet...considering the rest of me is so big!!!
however, i do remember-after my 3rd c.section-my health visitor telling me that i'd had to have one as i had a small pelvis.she then told me it was obvious because i have very small HANDS!!!

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 14:19

size 8 feet
one emergency section
But I have an android pelvis

homebirthbackwards · 10/03/2008 21:53

This is hilarious.

They used to have charts connecting shoe size and pelvic dimensions, but they were discredited and shown to be absolute rubbish about 20 years ago. You can't know how big your pelvis is cos it stretches.

I can't believe midwives still ask shoe size.

Bonkers.

ScaryHairy · 10/03/2008 21:58

Not true at all. My mother (size 2 feet) had 2 vaginal deliveries including a 10lb whopper. Me (size 6 feet) = one emergency cs after baby got stuck in my pelvis. Go figure. I even have childbearing hips.

barbamama · 10/03/2008 22:59

size 3 feet 2 vag births no stitches so think that is probably baloney - more likely to do with how well, or badly, your labour is managed imo (unless specific med issue like breech presentation etc).

jamsambam · 10/03/2008 23:06

i have size 11 feet and delivered ds2 in 12 minutes flat ...ok so i am like the dartford tunnel...stop sniggering**
