I want to share a story. When I was in the midst of a medical nightmare, I searched Mumsnet for a similar story. For reassurance. There wasn’t anything . So maybe my post will reassure someone one day.

I had a baby girl in June this year. The birth was dramatic, but we were both alive and healthy. We took our baby girl home, to her big brother, and stayed for 8 days.

I then haemorrhaged at home. We rushed to hospital. They said I had retained product and performed an emergency evacuation of the uterus. I was sent home the next day.

Three days later, I haemorrhaged again, badly, at home. We rushed to hospital and left the toddler at home with grandparents. They tried to stop the bleeding, with Tranexamic Acid, and some drugs to make my uterus contract.

It worked, but they wanted me to stay in for three days, to ensure I didn’t bleed again.

I bled again, whilst in hospital. They rushed me back to theatre and performed the same operation again. At this point I thought I was going to die, the amount of blood was insane. It was horrendous, and I missed my toddler so much.

The operation went well, but they wanted to keep me in. Another week, to ensure I didn’t bleed again.

During that week the junior doctors were striking, so I saw the obstetrics consultant. He got me an appointment for the gynae consultant.

He did an internal scan and said I had an awful infection (endometritis). He gave me 5 days of IV antibiotics. And would see me again after. I stayed in hospital. The baby stayed with me, and my toddler could visit. It tore me to pieces being away from him!

5 days later we went back. It was bad news. Another 2 days in hospital with more IV antibiotics. I could then go home for one week, and go back for a planned hysteroscopy and ANOTHER evacuation of the uterus.

Following that surgery I went home. I had no further problems. Today I went back for my follow up. He scanned my uterus, and I can’t quite believe but it’s all over!

4 secondary post partum haemorrhages, 3 surgeries and 6 blood transfusions.
