Placenta previa - when was your c section?

Trying to work out when mine might be if it doesn’t move by the next scan

It's just really dependent on risk factors I think, . What bleeds have been like etc. I'm over 40, had bleeds, 3rd child. They also look at where cord is, thickness of cervix, way baby is laying, if placenta is anterior/posterior, baby's weight. Some of this is okay for me, some makes it higher risk. I think they're thinking I might not go full-term (mainly age, bleeds, 3rd child) so I'm expecting 36-37 week c-section.

Thanks for this. I’m so sorry as it sounds like you went through a lot. How was your baby once born?

Im reasonably young with posterior placenta (no bleeds yet!) so not sure what that means. It’s hard just not knowing.

Sorry just seen baby’s not born yet! Are you on bed rest?

I was booked in for 37+4. After worrying about haemorrhage since week 18 when I discovered the PP, on the morning of the CS I woke up bleeding! It was as if my body knew it was 'go time'. Got to the hospital okay and had the section. She was in SCBU for two days due to breathing issues (despite my having had the steroid injections). All was well, and she is now a happy, healthy 3 year old

Depends entirely on how you and baby are. If you're both well, no bleeds etc you would be looking at 36-37 weeks. They really don't want to risk you going into labour naturally so if you show any signs of early labour they'll have you in and baby out.

I have placenta previa and I was bleeding (small amounts) very regularly. They said I'd probably be admitted to hospital at 32 weeks and kept in until delivery if it continued, or kept in from whenever if volume increased. If i haemorrhaged they wanted me in for a crash section. As it is, by my 28 week scan bleeding had stopped and it had moved by more than the required amount so they're happy to let me labour naturally if I want. If it hadn't I'd have had special scans of placenta and cervix at 32 weeks to determine if I needed to be admitted to hospital at that point.

A colleague had previa in both her pregnancies that never moved and delivered at 31 and 34 weeks by emergency section due to bleeds. Both babies are fine.

Posterior is good. Means it's at the back so the placenta isn't in the way when they do the C section. They can deal with it if its anterior (at the front) but means they either have to cut through it or do a vertical cut above to avoid. Posterior also means you often feel babies movements better :).

Mine was posterior. I was told over 90% move, posterior better for C section but less likely to move as more stretching at the front. As it is, mine moved from touching to over double the minimum length away.

Consultant wanted it to be 36 weeks I argued my way to it being 37+2, mine was diagnosed late in pregnancy after a bleed

Nope, not on bed rest. In fact I was training for a half marathon when it was found at 20 weeks. I'm not feeling 100%, I'm working from home (stop next week). I'd planned to work until birth, but I've decided to finish earlier than planned. Just because I feel a bit unreliable needing to lie down, get symptoms checked etc. Bleeding for me pretty much stopped a few weeks ago now around week 28/29 (had tiny amounts most days and 1 big bleed at 28 weeks). I think at this stage if I was bleeding it would be an emergency c-section/ bed rest, but I've been lucky the last few weeks. Hoping it continues. Good luck to you.

Because of my age and 3rd child, they always planned to sweep 38 weeks and induced 39 weeks without placenta praevia. They're generally expecting me not to get to due date. A younger friend had c-section at 37+1 with placenta previa (baby did really well).
