I am trying for a VBAC here in USA. I am finding it really hard to find a doctor that will do this. For litigation reasons they are totally against it and it is not even under discussion. So can anyone help? thank you.

Hi,

Mumsnet is mainly UK oriented and although there are an increasing number of members of other nationalities they're still in the minority.

Have you come across Fertility Friend? It has a much more American focus. I know there's at least one lady, that's very active on there, who is in a very similar situation (although I'm not sure what state she's from). It does seem as though insurance is now dictating what good clinical practice should be - which seems completely mad

Really hoping you can find a solution you're happy with

Try the 'Childbirth Choices' Bulletin Board on www.babycentre.com - that's US oriented and that board should help you. There's also a specialist VBAC board. Look in the community and debate board sections, or just google Childbirth Choices, it comes up.

Hope you find the help you need on these boards and you are able to find support to VBAC if you choose.

I'm also in the US.

First call your insurance company and see if they cover it. My sister looked into and was told it was not allowed. So you may need to pay out of pocket.

Also find out what type of suture you had a single or double. A friend of mine was in line for one, but when her notes were transferred her doctor said he wouldn't do it because it was a single suture, and didn't want her to go into labor.

Check into Certified Nurse-Midwife or a Certified Professional Midwife, because you may not get an OB/GYN that will support a VBAC. I'm in NJ and they are few and far between here.

Have a look at this site as it gives a list of Florida VBAC providers - at least they should be able to point you in the right direction.

then click 'research'

For litigation reason? I think you mean for medical reasons. The only reason litigation would cross his mind is if he (or she) thinks the choices on medical grounds are a bit risky.

However, I would think it's possible to find a VBAC natural kind of birth in the USA. It is the land of the freedom of choice after all.
