Back to back breech

Unfortunately my baby was discovered to be breech and back to back during childbirth. The experience was harrowing and I felt like I failed at childbirth and like I was weak for not being able to endure the pain.

Rationally I know this is not true. But can anyone tell me if trying to labour a back to back and breech baby hurts more than a normal birth?

hi Rainbow
i am so sorry you had a difficult birth.
back to back is famously slow, painful and difficult ( I needed assisted labour as a result)
understand your feelings of failure - was there too
hope you can focus on your baby - may they be healthy and settled

No idea about a breech baby but both of mine were back to back and the midwives said the pain was usually worse with back to back. I imagine it would be even more difficult with a breech baby. I do sometimes think my second wouldn’t have ended up in an EMCS if I could have just tolerated the pain better, which I know rationally is ridiculous. I think it’s human nature to look to blame ourselves but that’s absolutely not the case in your scenario. Congratulations on the birth of your baby and I hope you’re both doing well!

Mine was found to be breech at 36 weeks and I didn't even try to push him out - there's a reason they offer C-sections at that point! Don't feel bad, you had 2 things making it more difficult for you (breech and back to back), and plenty of people need help even without those.

Thanks everyone. When this happened, we discovered the cord was around their neck too and they weighed a lot (9.5lb). So I am told it was not going to happen.

I think my birth intentions were so unrealistic that its set me up to feel like I had failed.
