Hyponobirthing UP breathing & gas and air

I’ve been doing the Positive birth company hyponobirthing course and practicing UP breathing, and we also use it at my pregnancy yoga.

I’ve never used gas & air before but you breathing it in and out through your mouth.

How does this work with the UP breathing where you breath in through you nose and out through your mouth?

what did you do during a contraction?

thanks

I don’t think it is possible. I tried in labour but when I used gas and air I just took deep breaths in. I used my UP breathing at home whilst in early labour for 24 hours and also in between contractions in hospital when I felt I was getting a bit overwhelmed and needed to calm down. I felt it helped.

Use your up breathing until you feel like you need extra pain relief (you might not!) And then when using the gas and air you can still breath in for 5 out for 8 or whatever version of that you prefer, just through your mouth.

I mainly used it before the end of labour. By the end I was taking in gas and air like nobody’s business.

Do the up breathing up until (if) you need the gas and air and then just do the same but breathing in through your mouth. Even if you end up stopping the up breathing, the gas and air makes you focus on your breathing, so you can take long slow deep breaths which help get you through each contraction.
