What’s assisted delivery actually like?

Can you feel forceps - do they give you pain relief? This is my biggest fear.

I was shocked and upset to see how much strength and effort the dr was putting into it when pulling the baby out via ventouse.

I'm two and a half weeks post forceps delivery for my first. Had a spinal in theatre as a section was the next step so had no pain whatsoever. She came out quickly with bruising that has now faded. I was terrified of forceps beforehand but after a horrible induction where I was hyperstimulated I was literally begging for them to send the doctors in! Recovery so far has been good with very little pain and my pelvic floor seems to be intact.

I was terrified of induction and forceps, i even said if it came to it id rather have a c-section than forceps.

I ended up with a forcep delivery! Baby was struggling to stay down and she kept coming downs and slightly going back up, then she appeared to be in distress..
The worst part for me was the numbing, it stung for seconds but then over and done with in two pushes assisted with forceps- i felt the pop of her head coming out and then she was delivered safe and well on the second push.

She had the smallest mark above her left eyebrow and nothing else, the mark faded within hours and my recovery was quick and smooth.

It was intimidating at the time when it went from one midwife to several doctors but this is part of the policy to ensure baby is delivered safe and well, if i was ever to have another id not be as scared of forceps, but i appreciate not everybody has the best experience 🙂
