Retained placenta - 15 weeks

Posting because I'm at an absolute loss and feel so alone.

I gave birth to DC 16 weeks ago and suffered a retained placenta. They managed to remove it manually and everything was fine. Fast forward to 10 weeks PP and I started bleeding again. I just figured it was a period at first but the cramps and bleeding continued. Went back and forth with the GP who prescribed me antibiotics for an infection and a couple of days later, at 15 weeks PP, I passed what appeared to be a chunk of placenta.

Went back to GP who are taking this very seriously but it feels like no one else is. The hospital don't want to know, they won't give me an ultrasound appointment and I'm just feeling very forgotten. I'm now showing signs of infection again, cramping and bleeding has resumed and the doctors are running every test they can but it still won't get taken further.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what the outcome was?

Hi , I had retained placenta following a planned c section (not sure how it happened). I had to have it surgical removed at 9 weeks , they done an ultrasound to see how much was left. You need to push for an ultrasound. Go to a&e if you need to.

I've been left with Ashermans syndrome (scaring) as a result not sure if this is from it remaining or the opp to remove it. Which has caused endometriosis and adenomyosis. My bodies a mess from it , not to scare you. But please push to be seen x

Thank you for replying and sorry to hear that you've suffered with it. I will definitely be pushing for an ultrasound and trying to get this resolved.

@jellyreindeer how did you get on in the end?

jellyreindeer · 20/10/2024 21:47

@Mummy9431 Sorry, I haven't been on in a while. I kept having on/off bleeding for months and eventually found a nurse who knew something was wrong.

I had an internal scan in May this year where they found 3 small unknown masses. I was scheduled for a hysteroscopy in August but there was nothing in there by the time we got round to it (phew!). Everything now seems to have cleared up but I'm so glad I pushed for it.
