Did you buy a thank-you gift for your community mw?

If so, what, and roughly how much did you spend? Is a good bottle of wine an appropriate gift?

Mw has been very helpful and supportive but, despite the 28 antenatal home visits and appointments, I know next to nothing about her likes and dislikes. I don't think she is a flowers or smelly things sort of person though.

chocolates- spent about £15- hth!

Most midwives like chocolates. My midwife is a friend of mine and still didn't know what to get, ended up with big bunch of flowers and M & S vouchers. Mind you she did do all of my antenatal care and was on call to deliver me then did all the post natal care, so I basically had the care of an independant mw without having to shell out.

Mine was really great and went out of her way to fight my corner (VBAC at home for baby with known kidney problems ).

I got her an Oxfam unwrapped gift to do with training a midwife or something. It's not on there any more, but there are similar things. Also a card with a long, heart-felt message.

I bought a case of Champagne for midwives first time
and a bottle each second time (was poorer)

Bottle of wine with a home made tag with picture of ds on it for midwife who did ante and post natal care, for community midwife who delivered him (and stayed beyond the end of her shift to do so) and for community midwife who would have delivered him at home had he not been so reluctant to get on with it. Biscuits for staff on ward! Oh and a letter to head of midwifery saying how utterly wonderful they all were, which I think was probably what they appreciated more. I got a tear provoking thank you back for that!!

i gave her a foot pamper set from sanctuary.

i would spend between 5-10 quid but it depends how much moolah you have really.

We gave her Flowers and wine with a card including the photo of her with DS2. (homebirth) We also sent a bunch of flowers to the surgery the whole team were great.

Thanks everyone. I wanted to check I was on the right lines. I've bought a £15 bottle of wine, a nice box for it, and a card, and will drop it in tomorrow. I don't think she'd be that bothered about having a photo of ds2, lovely as he undoubtedly is.

Think I might send some chocolates or biscuits to the mws at the hospital's delivery suite too. They were fabulous too. Just a card for the postnatal ward - didn't really have much to do with any of the staff there.

You are all very generous! I just wrote to the head of midwifery saying how pleased I'd been. Got a really nice letter back.

A card with a message about how much her care meant is great, I have kept all the cards that I have been given in the last fourteen years. As a student midwife I got a card that said you are going to be a great mw, it meant so much to me as I was going through a really bad time, thinking is this really what I want to do. Still doing it so I guess it wasn't all that bad!
