Labour ward?

Wondering if anyone can help following t my birth..

During labour, whilst having very strong and regular contractions, I was on a shared ward with other pregnant people not in labour who had numerous visitors.. is this normal? Should I have been moved to a more private space earlier? There were other issues with the care I received but trying to understand this one... I was moved to a delivery room eventually but was in and out in 3 hours...

Did they assess how far gone you were in labour? If they examined you and you were 4cm or more dilated then you should be moved to a labour ward/birth suite depending on the plan. Unfortunately, labour wards don't have the capacity to accept all women having contractions unless they are classed as in established labour. There are also often issues with capacity- sometimes there is a wait for a room on labour ward to come up, but all hospitals should have a contingency plan for when they reach capacity. It does sound like you were in active labour though if you were in and out of the delivery suite within 3 hours.
