Postpartum stool softener (UK)

Hi what stool softeners have people used to ease post birth stool? When did you start? (I've seen that some people start before they give birth)

I've said UK specific as not everything has the same availability country to country

Use movicol. I tend to get constipated during pregnancy so find it helpful. Pack some sachets in your hospital bag and use one after you've settled down after giving birth.

Movicol. Only thing that works and relatively quickly.

I've always just used glycerin suppositories post birth. Not had much success with lactulose which was the other offered alternative.

I've had 1 x 3rd degree tear, 3 x 2nd and 1 x 1st.

Lactulose! I started taking it when we got home from hospital (quick in and out birth) but I took far more than what was recommended on the bottle 😁 certainly made things soft!

Lactulose has really helped me throughout the whole pregnancy. Will stick with that x

Laxido for me, which is same active ingredient as movicol. Lactulose
doesn't seem to help me.

Lactulose all the way. Very easy to take and works a treat. Took it after both a natural and c-section birth. But you must make extra effort to drink lots of water as not enough water can dry things up which is not fun!’

Prune juice and lactulose. Neither option particularly tasty but they do the job!

Lactulose, bran flakes and loads and loads of water. Had a pain free post birth poo!

Lactulose, bran flakes, dried apricots/ prunes if you like them. Saved me after caesarean.
