Postpartum Bleeding

I had an EMCS 6 weeks ago, had a few complications since then. My only issue now is that I have not stopped bleeding, I know 6 weeks is the "normal" but everything I've read says it should have turned into a creamy colour. Mine has stayed red, it varies between dark red and bright red with the occasional brown thrown in. I had retained products at 10 days PP and a follow up scan on Tuesday confirmed that this had passed naturally with nothing left over. The doctor isn't concerned but I am just utterly fed up of bleeding and even more so I'm fed up of wearing pads 24/7!

I had the Nexplanon implant inserted the day after birth whilst in hospital which the doctor has said could be the cause of the prolonged bleeding but isn't sure.

Has anyone had experience of this either prolonged bleeding in general or prolonged bleeding which was caused by the implant. If it is the implant causing it it is a very effective form of contraception as I certainly do not want to do anything with the constant bleeding!

With my first baby, she was forceps and I bled like what seemed to be an eternity afterwards, at least 6 weeks, however with subsequent babies I didn't bleed for as long, don't know why! As always I'd speak to your health visitor, or gp again if very worried.

I had my second EMCS (cat 1) 3 months ago. With this section I was still bleeding quite heavily until around 8 weeks (guest EMCS was week 4). Like you my doctor wasn't concerned. It was a faff on as had to still wear pads, but touch wood It stopped and I'm now back to a regular cycle.

It's hard and I didn't want to do much. Hang in there - it will hopefully stop soon 🤞🏻

I had a cat 1 emcs in 2020 and bled for 12 weeks. I'd had a major pph, blood transfusion and drain fitted after too.

In 2022 I had a cat 2 emcs and still bled for 9 weeks, despite only losing 0.5L blood in my section.

It's normal!

I had an unplanned c section and bleed for 3-4 weeks, it seemed to stop for a few days but came back again. Think it finally finished around 6-7 weeks
