Weight loss after baby

Hi

I had my baby by elective c section and we are overjoyed, he came weighing a good 8lbs 10oz.

I had one night in hospital and have now had one evening at home, I weighed myself this AM and I was expecting to see the 8lbs off as well as some extra for fluid etc.

I have only lost 5lbs- how is this possible? I know that they pump you with fluid during a section but surely they can’t account for it all?

Thanks

Milk filled breast weigh a fair bit. Well mine did as they quadrupled in size!
inflammation from the incision, that will be additional fluid too.
The need for a good bowel movement as the lack of moving post op and the drugs can leave you a bit constipated.

I retained a LOT of fluid for 2 weeks after my section. I still looked pregnant. I was hardly any lighter at all until the swelling went down!

I did the same thing after mine and I think all in I’d gained close to 3 and a half stone so was really accounting for a good stone to be off by the time I got home from hospital - it wasn’t! I think over the following 6 weeks though that probably as I bled more and my overall blood volume came back down to normal that helped take a bit off, plus just not having two hands to be able to sit and eat biscuits helped! I had lost a good chunk of the weight without trying and ended up with a stone left to lose by the time I was 3 months on and able to exercise again. It took a bit longer for my belly to be less flabby but I think that just takes time. I’m creeping towards the 3 stone on mark with number 2 now so hoping I can manage it all again 🙈

Thanks for all your responses.

I am now 6 days post section and a stone has come off, I think there was a lot of fluid from the c section operation.

Just another 2 stone to go….however finding no time to eat really so hopefully this should come off easily.

I put on 4.5 stone last time and that came off with little effort but took about 9 months.
