I will be induced at 39 weeks. I would love to hear your positive experiences of being induced - or as positive as possible! I don't want any horror stories (I know there are risks for any type of childbirth). Thanks!

I was induced at 39+1.

Had the pessary at 12.30, contractions started at 15.30, DS was born at 20.30. It was exactly the same length of labour as my previous labour fifteen years prior.

The main issues with it were that until 19.15, I was in the "induction bay" with three other couples where curtains were the only privacy. I was being given paracetamol but asking the midwife for further pain relief because it was unbearable. The midwife told me that I wasn't experiencing contractions and that they were "pessary pains". After much begging I was moved to the delivery suite and given entinox. Thankfully this coincided with staff handover time and I got a different midwife. Baby was born just over an hour later. Pessary pains my arse.

@PregnantQuestions i had growth scans every two weeks, i had gestational diabetes and scans for that were every 4 weeks but had emergency surgery on my stomach at 31 weeks pregnant so was then put on fortnightly scans to make sure baby was okay in there and growing well.
Her growth only slowed in the last two scans and upto that all seemed well!

She was always estimated bigger so a massive shock when she was born so small, only took upto a 10lbs sleepsuits and vests to the hospital so it was a mad rush after birth for my boyfriend to go get us some tiny clothes and bring them in; she was lost in all outfits bless her!

@essynemo wow I can't believe those scans were so incorrect!

@BillieShears that's awful that they refused to believe you! You know your body. That's a nice quick labour! I'll be induced with the gel

I was induced as my waters broke and I was positive for group B strep, they recommended I be induced with the drip immediately but I chose to wait 24 hours or so hoping things would start naturally as I wanted to be in the midwife led unit with pool etc rather than labour ward. I was having iv antibiotics for the strep b.

Things didn't start so I agreed to the drip after 24 hours. I did find it difficult being very limited with movements with having to have the monitors on my stomach, and the drip and iv antibiotics I was limited to the bed but did ask they put a ball next to the bed so I could use that and lean on the bed I didn't have to be on the bed. I did find it very painful as the drip brought on strong contractions but little progression, I asked for gas and air and had that for 6 hours whilst I had 3 then 4 contractions every 10 mins but little dilation for 6 hours. I agreed to epidural and was able to sleep and relax, I then went from 4-10cm in 3 hours! I didn't get the epidural topped up so I could feel my legs and move, I was told I was 10cm after I asked to be checked cos I could feel a huge amount of pressure in my bum, the midwife said we'll give it one hour but 10 mins after she'd left I got my partner to ring the buzzer and she came back and said she could see my daughter's head! 20 mins of pushing which I did panic it as the feeling of pressure shocked me, but then she was born absolutely fine! I only had internal grazes no perineal tears, they did stitch for 45 mins all the internal grazes but recovery went very well.

So although I did find the drip very painful before I got the epidural, ultimately I'm happy with the birth and especially that no interventions were needed and recovery was very smooth.

Was induced at 38&5, went in for balloon at 10am, fell out at 2pm, baby by 7pm no drip or anything. Active labour, small tear and up having a shower not long after!
