Are these contractions???

I am 2 days overdue with baby no 2. Had sweep yesterday afternoon.
For over an hour now I have been having pains in my very lower stomach which feel like a cross between bad period pain and a stomach cramp you get when you have an upset tummy.
They are coming every 3-5 minutes but dont last very long.

With my DS I didnt go into labour naturally so not sure how it feels at the start... But I was under the impression that contractions normally start off further apart and get closer over time...

Is it possible that they are starting off close together and will just increase in intensity instead??

Dont know whether to call DH home yet- he is at work 2 hours away (have had to stop twice in the middle of typing this to breathe slowly through the pain!!!)
Any advice???

Sounds like the earliest stages of my labour. Except that I didn't have to stop typing/talking to breathe through the pain at that stage. If you can, I would take 2 paracetamol and see if having a bath slows things down - if NOT, then looks like you are at the start.

when I was in proper established go to hospital labour, the contractions were at least 30 seconds each.

meemar · 20/02/2008 09:52

It sounds like labour. I would call the hospital and see what they say.

My second labour contractions started 6 mins apart and built quickly from there.

Call DH and make sure he is on standby.

Good luck x

I am v

If I don't go into labour by the weekend then I'm not having this baby at all [sulk]

dilbertina · 20/02/2008 09:53

I would get hubby to set-off just in case - 2 hours quite a long drive and better if he can do it not in a panic....will it be a BIG problem for him at work if it turns out to be false alarm?

MrsDandOllie · 20/02/2008 10:00

Right, have told DH to keep his phone in his pocket for now and i'll call him when i need him but to be on standby! MIL is 20 mins away so will call her if I need someone here sooner...
Pains are only last 10 or 15 seconds at most so not very long at the moment. Going to take some paracetemol now and see how it goes.
Wish my waters would just break then at least I'd know if it was the real thing or not!!!

Don't pay too much attention re:waters - hospital had to break mine for me when I was already 6cm dilated!!!

meemar · 20/02/2008 10:03

Agree about waters - sometimes they dont break until the very end.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/02/2008 10:06

Hooray! I hope this is it for you
My friend had a baby last night, so exciting!
Good luck, and please keep us posted

shabster · 20/02/2008 10:16

Sounds good to me! I only experienced 'natural' labour with the last of my 4 sons.

It was an amazing experience after being 'started off' with my others.

I finally gave in and went to the hospital at about 1.00 pm and DS came hurtling out at 1.45pm.

Oh yes and I got into big trouble from my mum for leaving it so long before I rang them and asked for a lift! I was 41 For gods sake

Good luck, keep us informed

MrsDandOllie · 21/02/2008 19:26

They were definitely contractions!!
Got to hospital a couple of hours after posting on here and was 9cm dilated
DH very nearly didnt make it, he raced in the door with 5 mins to spare!
Teddy Douglas was born weighing 7lb 15oz at 2.32pm yesterday.
We are home from hospital now and doing great
