C section scar

This might be a really stupid question but i'll ask anyway - I had a c-section in Jan 07 and am hoping to try for another baby this year. If I have another section, will they cut me in the same place, over the old scar, or slightly lower/higher?

They will cut through the existing scar so you will still have one scar....that what I have after 2 DC

dh watched and said they just cut through old scar.ive had 3 and still just 1 neat little scar-hardly visable!

mrslurkalot · 15/02/2008 21:15

I was booked in for my second section yesterday and was told that they would go through the original scar unless it was too low down. So I think they try to use the same scar if possible.

Thanks everyone!
Moljam - your dh watched them cut you? Brave man!

My first was an emergency so is a bit jagged and uneven. The second was planned, so although it starts at the same place, it follows a different (much neater, straighter) line.

As I haven't seen anyone else's scar i can't compare mine but other women talk about their being neat and hardly visible and i wonder if my surgeon didn't have his glasses on because mine does seem long and quite 'large' to me, it's still red and a bit raised. I had a section because my placenta was very low, maybe they had to cut further along than usual to be sure of avoiding it? I know they were concerned they might cut into it and cause me to bleed heavily....I didn't ask at the time - just relieved it all went well - but i look at the scar now and think 'is it supposed to look like that?!'

pollyblue-yes dh is a freak!he wanted to see as hadnt been allowed in room with first dc as was put to sleep.they kept asking if he was ok-im like-im having the op not him! so hes seen my insides-true love?

pollyblue, how your scar heals is partly genetic.

My scar from my first (emergency) cs was also red and slightly raised. I did not like the look of it. So when I had a second (planned) section, I asked the surgeon to cut out the scar and then to take care in sewing it up. He said he would try his best, within safety boundaries, and no guarantees that I won't scar in the same way. It has healed better . Not barely visible, but less obvious and thinner scar - just one.

I saw my incision as the surgical drapes they put up as a screen fell down at the crucial moment . Very interesting

kidsandcats · 15/02/2008 22:27

Hi pollyblue - I've had 2 c-sections and they cut through the same scar with my second one too.

kidsandcats · 15/02/2008 22:29

They splattered blood up my surgical drapes and the anaesthetist curtly said "Do you mind...?"

Martha200 · 16/02/2008 07:07

I have a 2nd scar from 4 weeks ago. (didn't know until after the op!)

My first an ES at a different hosp. they used the beading type to sew me up, this time it was disovable stiches so that might have something to do with it, fortunately the latest scar is doing better than my first one.

pollyblue · 16/02/2008 12:01

Thanks everyone for your replies, feeling much more cheerful about things now. I am quite fair skinned and always bruise/scar easily so maybe it is a genetic thing. I'm going to see my Doc monday and ask her if she thinks it looks ok and will stand the strain of another pregnancy!
I HATE to think how dh would've reacted if he'd got to see my insides or blood splattering around - expect he would've been out of the theatre as fast as his little clogs would carry him!

They not only cut through my old scar for my 2nd, elective section, but took away the scar tissue from last time so I just now have one, rather neat lot.
