38+4 and 1/5 engaged

2 weeks ago baby wasn't engaged at all, now 1/5 engaged which I think means deeply engaged? Feels totally uncomfy either way.

How much longer do you reckon until I meet baby (this is my second)?

As an aside: With my first, I only ever reached 2/5 engaged at my 40w MW appt after a very gradual process so this time seems very sudden. First baby arrived 41+1.

I think it really depends, with my 2nd he was engaged from about 38 weeks I’m sure with my midwife told me baby’s can pop back in out right up until you go in to labour, I gave birth at 41 weeks

bracemyselfagain · 06/04/2023 22:02

I echo what PP said ...
2nd baby onwards can float up/down - in/out of the pelvis for weeks. Plays havoc on the crotch.

You may go into labour tomorrow though ...

Goodluck & wishing you a safe delivery OP :)

Teapleasemilknosugar · 06/04/2023 22:20

Part of me hopes baby doesn't keep me waiting as long as the last one did, part of me is screaming arghhh not ready yet!

I really hope this baby isn't an in/out floater though, feels like havoc on the crotxh and pelvis already as it is 🥴

I'm only nearly 31 weeks with my first & been told I'm 1/5 already 🤔 she said baby can move positions though at this point still !

Teapleasemilknosugar · 07/04/2023 23:03

Well, no sign of labour today. Still just as uncomfy, perhaps more so?! Hard to tell now. Everything just aches.

That's early to be 1/5 engaged @Belami!

@Teapleasemilknosugar bless you!! It's horrible being so uncomfortable isn't it.

I know, I didn't really understand what the midwife meant when she said that so I asked her about it and she said not to worry & it doesn't mean labour is near 🤔😅

It means 1/5 of babies head is in the pelvis. In other words, the MW can feel the other 4/5, so not deeply engaged.

onedone · 08/04/2023 11:09

I was the same as you at 38 weeks ... 2nd baby .... stayed put until 40+1 despite me trying everything

bracemyselfagain · 08/04/2023 12:11

How you feeling OP?

How you feeling OP?

Feeling a lot more comfy than I was a few days ago thank you, I think baby has maybe floated out as you suggested!

It isn’t. If she had written 1/5 palpable, it would mean 4/5 were engaged. However, she’s written 1/5 engaged, which would suggest the other 4/5 are felt above the pelvis.

bracemyselfagain · 10/04/2023 08:16

@Teapleasemilknosugar

Awh! You've not got long to go - you got this.

Perhaps in your trust but not in mine (and it was the same with my first born, too). 4/5 means only 4/5 above. 1/5 means only 1/5 above - according to my MW when I asked.

I know, but I feel like I'll wish away the little remaining time now then regret doing that as soon as baby arrives and I'm up all night and exhausted again! Can't win! 😆

@Teapleasemilknosugar

Haha I know how that feels!
Snuggling your lil babe will make it all worth it on the long run.

Wishing you the very best of luck

Baby girl arrived tres rapido this morning, almost didn't make it to hospital. Skipped assessment at triage/MAU straight to delivery suite (crowned in the lift on the way), no time for pain relief, 10mins pushing stage and hello 👋 😍 40+5
