Does DH come to Pre-Op appointment for C-Section?

Had a voicemail left for me yesterday detailing the date and time of my pre-op appointment for elective CS. I wasn't given a number to call back or anything so can't ring to ask.

Is it normal for partners to come with you to this, or is it something I can do alone or with my mum?

Just want to know cause unless it's important there's probably no need to him to take more unpaid time off work for it

Many thanks

I went to mine on my own and it was a complete non event. I was given two boxes of meds to take the night before and morning of my CS, loads of paperwork to go in my green folder and did an MRSA swab of my groin and nose. It was over in 5 minutes. My hospital gives a very long and informative leaflet of FAQs which covered everything from what to eat, likely timings, covid tests to skin to skin and breastfeeding which DH and I both read.

That's wonderful, thanks for all that info. Definitely looks like he didn't need to join me then 🙂

Most welcome! I’m sure there are variations between hospitals but mine was two weeks ago so current at least for that one. My pre op was the week before my section so I had to go back for bloods 48 hours before, you may have yours done at the same time as your pre op.

Hope it all goes really well.

@AnneLovesGilbert What meds were they? Just being nosy because I'm having a planned cs too. My last one was emergency so obviously a bit of a different experience

My partner came but it wasn't really exciting and I would have been fine on my own (it was his day off he wouldn't have booked time of work)

No. DH didn't go to any of my midwife or hospital appointments. Just the scans. Everything else was a lot of sitting in waiting rooms....

Mine did come with because he was off work anyway. Absolutely unnecessary having him there so no need for your DH to take time off
work. This was last month.

I didn't have a section but I was consultant led and was assessed for a section due to a previous history of having a brain bleed so I was classed as high risk for labour...... my OH never came, infact he didn't come to anything apart from the birth and even then he was neither use nor ornament 🤣 you'll be absolutely fine on your own xxxx

I went on my own.
