Second elective C section - experiences?

Hi team! I'm going in for my second elective C section in 2 weeks and wondered if anyone could share any experiences. Is it easier? Harder? More nerve wracking? Easier to recover? My first C section was a walk in the park and feel incredibly lucky to say I had a wonderful experience. Worried second time round won't be so great... but am I wrong? Thanks!

My 2nd was harder although I had to go back to theatre after a bleed. More painful than the 1st but I don't regret it at all

Post op complications then infected wound l. Overall recovery took months.

Absolute walk in the park....I was relaxed, the theatre staff seemed relaxed. Bit nervous about the spinal but it was absolutely fine!
My first was an emergency though, but I've since had a third planned section and that was fine too! The only issue was a slight adhesion from previous scar tissue so took a little longer to get me sorted afterwards, but all good!

Oh! And super quick recovery from my second and third too. First one - recovery was horrendous.

Out of hospital 25hrs later. Obviously uncomfortable walking too far or fast, or getting into and out of bed, but it was as quick a recovery as my first, aided by knowing what to expect this time around.

I was booked in for my 2nd one, but beat them to it vaginally by 3 days. All very quick.
Good luck.

It was my second on medical grounds (very large baby), and no not easier. I lost a lot of blood and I needed a drain after. My baby was ill (unrelated to the section) so went straight to NICU.
I think it doesn't matter whether it's your first or third - each is different

Newmum110 · 21/03/2023 20:44

Had an emergency for my first one & planned for my second so maybe that was the difference but my second was an absolute breeze. Was shaving my legs myself the following day!!!! I honestly think knowledge is power so you know how to organise yourself better. I was dreading not being able to drive/carry my toddler but was able to do both of those things after 2 weeks. I would be looking forward to another section if I was to go again.

I found it a lot more painful, getting up off the bed etc felt like I was being torn apart, apparently it will be more painful going through scar tissue, but make sure you get good painkillers and you'll be fine

My first was an emergency, but my second (elective) was amazing. I healed so much faster than I did from the first.

I did have bad trapped wind pain, though, so strongly recommend getting some actual meds for that - I used Windeze, but I'm sure others are available! Peppermint tea didn't touch it for me.

Good luck and congratulations!
