41 weeks and baby not engaged

Upset after appointment today... Head down but still bobbing around.. This is my third and on my 2nd I was induced. He was almost 10lbs so I'm wondering now if his head was too big to lodge in my pelvis and if that's what's happening this time too. All this discomfort and bh contrx for nothing!!! Back for an exam on Thursday and I'll be 41 + 3.

Anyone got any words of encouragement?????

The head not being engaged doesn't mean anything - it often doesn't go anywhere near till labour - at least baby is the right way up - or down Did you ask your midwife how big she thinks baby is?

PotPourri · 11/02/2008 15:44

None of my 2 engaged until labour was in full swing - was induced both times. Apparently in second or later pregnancies it is quite normal not to engage until labour. so I wouldn't worry too much.

Baby estimated to be about 9.5 or so.. I suppose what upset me was the Dr. seemed surprised so he must be very far up or something.
Thanks for responding..

I did have an internal today but guessing it wasn't a 'sweep' as I would need to be favourable, correct?

The more babies you have the more common it is for them not to engage. Even a 2nd baby may not engage until labour starts. Good luck.

I also am over due was due on 2/2/08 and at last appointment baby was est. to be 9-11 lbs and head was very high up. This is my first and my doc believes babies come on their own and induction usually causes c-sec. I'm in alot of pain with my hips and pelvis area 2 weeks ago I was 1 cm and made no progess in a week have appointment tomarrow would you ask to be induced if you were me?

On my second baby, I had an appointment with midwife, and head not engaged etc. She thought had ages yet, and booked me an appointment to see her the following in just over a weeks time as she was off on holiday.

Baby was born the following morning. Head engaged during labour.

no need to worry yet.

I am 40 weeks + 4 days, although babys heads down it still isn't engaged! There seems to be no signs of baby coming and i'm very distressed, i've got alot of servere pelvic pain and sciatica (thinks that how you spell it!) and very bad heartburn. My inducement date is just under a week away, everyday feels like a year! Any tips on engouraging labour? Would be really, really greatful! (smile)

None of my babies engaged and I still went into labour at 40+2 and 40+3, so head being high is not an indication of when you will go into labour. Don't despair. An interesting article about induction.

I know that babies can engage right up to being born and don't want to worry you, but...
I was told from 32 weeks that the head of my 'not large' baby was down but not engaged.
Due to complications last time, I had consultant appt at term, the day before my due date I went along and -
Next day I was having elective c-section, the midwives had not been feeling the head of a small baby but the bottom of a 9lb-er!

Exactly the same with me, kept bobbing in and out, didn't engage until I was in full labour.
