If you are now packing, or have ever packed, a hospital bag - what couldn't you have lived without? What did you miss? What random item did you throw in and it happened to make a huge difference?!

I'm all ears to any and all suggestions 😊

I packed a ‘I’ve had a c section and can’t move bag’ - a small zipped bag that my partner /midwife could pass me so I had all essentials to hand in case I couldn’t move my legs. I had a portable phone charger, face wipes for freshening up, hand gel, snack and drink, lip balm, big muslin, hat for baby. Was great and really useful!!

Tissues, the ward only had rough tiny ones

I've got my list ready so I'll copy it here:

Big water bottle with straw
Handheld fan (giving birth in May)
Extra long phone charge cable
3 x button down nighties in black
2 x nursing bras
5 x big black knickers
1 x pack of maternity pads
Nipple cream
Spritz for bitz
Comfy going home outfit
Flip flops for shower
Mini shampoo, conditioner and body wash
Flannel
Toothbrush
Mini toothpaste
Mini face wash
Face moisturiser
Body moisturiser
Hair brush, hair bobbles and a claw clip
My own towel from home
Perineal bottle
Perineal cooling pads
My own pillow
iPad with episodes of a series on just in case I'm in for a while
Earphones

@elm26 Pack 2 packs of maternity pads 😅 and don’t forget your snacks 😊

sunseaandme · 23/01/2023 21:14

Your own pillow and blanket. Lots of maternity or heavy flow pads (I went through three packets!), snacks, lots of comfy clothes and Pjs, iPad, headphones, books, eye mask, ear plugs (Incase of overnight stay). I stayed for 5 nights prior to baby being born and OMG I got no sleep in the noisy ward

Clean t-shirt and deodorant for DH.. after more than 24 hours in a very warm hospital in July this would have been handy! Also moisturiser for v itchy skin post c-section

Snacks and more snacks... For after the birth really. I packed so many but it was nice to have the choice and variety and then treated myself to lots of snacks in the first few days post baby too.

Nice shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Just wanted to feel extra clean after that first shower.

Tena pants rather than maternity pads.

Face wipes/wet wipes
Deodorant
Speaker and playlist
Lucozade tablets and drinks

Lavender essential oil and pillow spray. This really made me relax in labour.

Make sure your partner knows where all your stuff is and stuff for baby

husbandcallsmepickle · 23/01/2023 21:39

Mints. I was sick a few times in labour and couldn't brush my teeth so mints were really good to have.

desperadodogface · 23/01/2023 21:49

Long charging lead, holder for your phone or tablet if you'll be watching tv, all the snacks!

Dyra · 23/01/2023 23:32

Oh yes! I forgot a large water bottle. Amazing for when baby decides to take up residence upon you, and you only have access to whatever is within reach of one arm. Hospital jugs and little cups are useless.

elm26 · 24/01/2023 10:54

Thank you @Username24680 I will add another pack on. Snacks are in DH's bag 😊

Currently on day 6 in with my little dot, and the one thing I threw in that surprised me was magazine samples!
I have a little drawer that I chuck them in when pulled out of magazines/given as freebies etc - usually pull them out for easy overnights, so thought I'd throw some in to my hospital bag...
It's turned recovering from an emergency section with a little one in neonatal, in to a bit of a spa day! Such a random little joy in every day, and I'm not even really in to skincare etc!
