TENS machines. Are they all the same?

I have a TENS machine that we bought a year or so ago from a chemist to use for backache. Is there any difference between this sort and the sort you would hire for labour?
Also, is it safe to use at 34 weeks for backache, and any other ache and pain?
Thank you!

I think they are slightly different - but no idea how... different, erm, (I want to say 'voltages')??

you want a booster button in labour, to push when contractions peak. don't know about using for backache while pG, sorry!

As merryberry says, you want one with a booster button for contractions.

Physio at hospital said not to use them before labour (think she said they can bring on early labour IIRC - am a first timer myself, so can't vouch from experience)

I was recommended by MW to hire one from natures gate as they offer std 6 week hire rather than 4 that some offer. Approx £22.

Thank you! I king of thought I would need something different but was hoping to save a few pennies!!

Policywonk, perhaps MN HQ could start a "Most useless thread of the week" section Although in all fairness, you have done better at articulating MY thought than I have!!!!!

Anyway, am seeing mw on Monday so will double check with her then.

btw...www.tens.co.uk have 7 weeks and a variety of prices.

Obsetetric tens have 4 pads (as opposed to 2 on some non-obstetric). The pads are also bigger. The boost button is also vital

As has been said you can't use them before 37weeks (IIRC) because of the risk of premature labour.
