What did you wear in birthing pool?

Hopeful to be able to use the birthing pool with baby #2 in early Feb - but haven't thought too much about what you wear in the pool - I'm guessing you could (and probably do towards the end) go nude but would be super grateful if you could share what you have worn in the pool that has worked! Tia!

I wore a tankini top. Once baby was born they helped me take it off to do skin to skin

HamHand · 10/01/2023 17:32

Tankini top. There’s no way I’d be nude or wear a bikini top in any other situation, and as much as people say you won’t care, I certainly did.

Exasperatednow · 10/01/2023 17:32

Nude. Both in hospital and at home. It seemed such a faff to wear something and then inevitably take it off.

ParentsTrapped · 10/01/2023 17:32

Wore my bra both times. Quick labours so just stripped off.

JadeTC · 10/01/2023 17:32

I wore a nursing bra that was sort of a swimsuit material....that was pretty much all I wore for the rest of my labour before the pool too!

Devilou666 · 10/01/2023 17:33

I had a nightie on first then naked at end and I'm a prude.

KateTheShrew · 10/01/2023 17:34

Just a strappy vest top, I think.

Montague22 · 10/01/2023 17:38

Nothing, and was perfectly happy that way both times. You don’t feel exposed in the water.

FatGirlSwim · 10/01/2023 17:44

Everyone will say you’ll be hot. I wasn’t and found the pool cold. I can’t remember what I was wearing but imagine I was probably naked.

My contractions stopped every time I got in the water and I was cold and shivery though, so I got out again and gave birth on my living room floor! I guess hospitals are usually hot places.

Iwantyourmidnights · 10/01/2023 17:46

I can't remember!

Fairylightsandstuff · 10/01/2023 17:47

Tanking top or bra/bikini top.

museumum · 10/01/2023 17:48

Tanking top. I had huge boobs in pregnancy which I would have hated having floating/flapping about when I was on all fours.

123woop · 10/01/2023 17:50

I would have worn a lovely black bikini that I bought especially but there literally wasn't time so ended up in the nude 🤣

FTM2022SS · 10/01/2023 17:53

Bikini top that looked like a sports bra - about £6 from Boohoo! I definitely didn't care by the time I got in the pool lol!

Squamata · 10/01/2023 17:54

Nothing. It's fine. Midwives are not shocked by boobs.

SomeoneSomewhere21 · 10/01/2023 17:56

I packed a cropped top swimsuit and a vest top in my hospital bag to wear in the pool as I’m usually very body conscious and shy.
But when it came to it I just couldn’t bear anything on my skin and stripped off butt naked and got in the pool - midwives did not bat an eyelid.

NoCatsToday · 10/01/2023 17:57

Nothing.

WoolyMammoth55 · 10/01/2023 18:16

OP, I had a bikini top on and a vest over the top, for the first 4 hours in the pool...

Then got sent out of the pool as not progressing, so stripped those off and stuck on a t-shirt and joggers in the loo.

Then pain went through the roof! And I begged to be let back in the water... When they finally relented I just tore everything off me and jumped back in nude.

I am not body-confident and couldn't imagine it before hand AT ALL, but honestly in the moment I gave zero fucks :)

Wish you all good luck <3

BertieBotts · 10/01/2023 18:21

Hospital gown that I immediately took off as it felt nasty - then nothing
Nothing
I think a vest top maybe? - Maybe nothing again.

With DC1 and 3 I only got into the pool once I was quite deep into a labour headspace and I didn't care.

DC2 I got in much earlier when I was still lucid but I am not bothered about people seeing me naked so I didn't care then either Grin However the pool did absolutely nothing for me that time and I got out after about 2 contractions. Strongly recommend holding on for as long as you can before you get in. It was amazing for both DC1 and 3.

BumbleNova · 10/01/2023 18:24

Absolutely nothing. My second labour was v fast and I don't even remember thinking about it.

Nadal · 10/01/2023 18:41

Tankini top. Naked is not for me

daisyjgrey · 10/01/2023 19:01

A nightie. People often say "you won't care", I did, and continued to throughout.

didiimaginethis · 10/01/2023 19:10

I was naked, never gave it a second thought and midwives saw worse than my boobs!

Threesmycrowd · 10/01/2023 19:16

Couldn't bear anything touching me in labour. Wore nothing. Being naked was the least of my worries given everything they were fishing out of that pool!

mamaofmimiande · 10/01/2023 19:33

Thank you so much all for your responses! I'm not really a tankini girl and I don't want to buy one just for this but I hadn't thought about a vest top! I think I probably will end up in the nud but it's good to have options! I might not even end up in there but really hope I do! Went from 1 to 10 too quickly last time and there was no time to fill it up 😂
