Waters, show or meconium?! TMI pic

You'd think I'd know the answer to this, it being my third pregnancy! I've not gone into labour naturally before so I'm really not sure.

On Sunday morning, DH and I had sex, about 45 minutes later after I'd showered I had water my blood run down my leg, the midwife came to check me over and she said she can't confirm or deny it was my waters because it had stopped but she said there was evidence of my bloody show starting to come out!

Fast forward to today, I've had a tiny bit of show but only once or twice when I wipe. When I got up this morning I felt a slight gush and noticed some water in my pants with light brown. Does this sound like some of the show coming out with a bit of waters?

I haven't bothered to phone up because I'm having a home birth and I thought I'd wait until I know for sure! Pic attached of this morning

Sorry, if you think there’s a chance your waters might have broken on Sunday, you need to call up and be seen at the hospital, as otherwise there’s a very real risk of sepsis for both you and baby

Insheerpanic · 06/12/2022 09:49

Go get checked

Whiskeypowers · 06/12/2022 09:54

Your midwife is crap. They can put a pad in your knickers which can tell if it was your waters that had gone or not
you need to go to the maternity unit and get checked out asap

My waters went slowly and on/off like you describe with dc3. It was like a slow leak if I walked uphill but not enough to be sure that was what was happening. That went on for 2 days before they "went" properly. I didn't get checked because I (and baby) felt ok and I didn't want to start the "midwife -must induce them now - clock" ticking

If you're worried then get checked. Otherwise I'd stay home, there is an increased risk of infection but it's still a very low level.

Best thing to do is call your pregnancy assessment unit and go in for a review. It is difficult to say from the picture you have posted. They will be able to do a test that will confirm/rule out your waters having gone. Your midwife really should have sent you in for that test when you saw them.

he1620 · 06/12/2022 10:58

Yeah I really thought I would be sent in but she came to my home and told me to lay down for half an hour and then checked me over, she couldn't see anything so said she couldn't confirm or deny if it was my waters or not 🤦🏻‍♀️ and to monitor my temperature and keep an eye out for anymore!

I think I might lay down for a little bit to see if anymore comes out. Been on my feet all morning

Also I'm 39+3 today!

I was in Aldi at around 37 weeks, just walking round normally when I felt a literal gush, thought I’d wet myself. Had an appointment with the midwife that afternoon and mentioned it, I was immediately rushed to an appointment at the hospital to be checked over, thankfully it wasn’t my waters breaking. Your midwife sounds a bit rubbish, you should have been properly checked.

FWIW, my waters actually broke about 7 hours into contractions and continued to gush with every contraction while they tried to get the needle in my back. Didn’t know that much liquid could physically come out of a person 🙈😂

caramac04 · 06/12/2022 11:19

Get checked. If it is meconium then baby. needs monitoring .
Its hard to say from pic, could be plug and waters but could be meconium

How did it go?

he1620 · 12/12/2022 19:38

@Bumblebee412

She checked me and couldn't tell if it was my waters or not, I'm assuming it wasn't! I had a sweep earlier and have had on and off irregular pains since so I'm hoping this is it!
