Waters breaking

Tell me your story ! How, when and where did your waters break.

my first the midwife broke mine in hospital due to having to be induced cause of pre eclampsia but this time round I have no symptoms etc and I’m into my third trimester. I swear this baby will come early as everything feels very loose and feels like her head is down and constantly achey down there.

I had mine broken by the consultant on the maternity ward, this during my admission as l was having very strong contractions but was only 2cm dilated!! And the rest is history as they say.

First DD she was coming out in the sack and they burst. Second DD I'm not entirely sure but somewhere at the very final stages of labour, it was all very quick!

MyTabbyCats · 19/11/2022 16:36

Half went with my first and they broke the other half after 24 hrs labour. Second dc waters went in one massive gush just as the mw was about to check if they’d gone! I thought someone has turned a tap on. I couldn’t believe how much water there was.

thunderandsunshine01 · 19/11/2022 16:38

1st they slowly trickled, but was in the bath most of the time so didn’t really know or not if they had gone.
2nd broke on a walk in early labour to get things moving, very funny waddling home in wet leggings. Queue about 3-4 more “large gushes” as we waddled home.
3rd broke during the pushing stage, quite the show!

Literally different each time so no predicting what can happen.

4yearsandwaiting · 19/11/2022 16:41

Dc1 all over my bed I woke up with an urge to go to the loo, sat up and they went every where.
Dc2 broken to move labour on ju midwife.
DC3 was born In waters and midwife burst them on delivery.

Eranzer · 19/11/2022 16:42

1st my hind waters (I didn't know this was a thing until it happened!) broke, had to be induced 48 hours later as labour didn't follow. I'd just stood up out of bed one morning (37 weeks) and thought I did a little wee, I got it checked out to be on the safe side. Lucky I did.

2nd they didn't, he came out en caul

3rd they popped in the midwifes face as his head popped out forcefully Grin

I have always wondered what people do if their waters break in bed. Did you get a new mattress ? Did it stain ? Details please cause I feel like it’s quiet common to go in the night in bed but no one says what happens to the actual mattress etc …

Had to Google hind waters. How interesting ! Who knew there were different areas of the water and they had different names !

DH was so concerned about that happening that we bought a waterproof undersheet for our bed!

In the actual event, I was stood at the kitchen sink washing up and suddenly the floor was very wet Grin

JanuaryBirthdays · 19/11/2022 17:17

Ds1 manually broke during induction 40+5
Ds2 manually broke during labour 40+4
Ds3 waters broke on my friends sofa at 39 weeks. Gave birth 5 hours later. Luckily I got up when I felt the first trickle otherwise it would have gone everywhere!

A mattress protector not a bad idea but in reality most women’s waters break during labour or during induction so unlikely to ruin any furniture.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 19/11/2022 17:25

37+5w, woke up about 5am thinking that i was about to wet the bed. Rushed to the loo and they broke in a big gush in the bathroom. Went into triage and found out i had pregnancy induced hypertension so wasn't allowed to leave again.

24hrs later, I'd been fully dilated for a while without any urge to push and the midwife realised that only my hind waters had gone and fore waters were impeding DDs progression, so she broke the forewaters. Took about 3 pushes after that for DD to be born.

mumumumumumm · 19/11/2022 17:37

1st due date I woke up at 4.30am as they started to go so it was a mad dash to the bathroom, contractions shortly after, baby 7 1/2 hours later.

2nd 8 days late contractions started at 5.30am (though I wasn't sure that's what they were at the time as was expecting waters to go first) waters went last minute during pushing stage, quite dramatic! 2 pushes and baby arrived 5hrs after first contractions.

2 different experiences for me, though thankfully quick and straightforward.

Hope all goes well!

With both my pregnancies, my waters broke unexpectedly before labour started and both times in bed with obvious gush !

With my first I got diarrhoea before bed and I did wonder if that meant something as my entire pregnancy I dealt with constipation. I was 37 weeks exactly so not exactly overdue so I wasn’t really suspicious ( or maybe not as suspicious if I was overdue if you know what I mean ). Anyway at 1am my waters broke with a gush and it was super obvious it was my waters . I also lost my mucus plug at the same time. 3 hours later I started to get contractions.

With my second born , my waters also broke in bed but in the morning. It woke me up with a start. I was 38 weeks . Just like my first, I got diarrhoea the night before so this time I was suspicious haha. My husband was rushing around doing last minute jobs while I rested . Just like my first pregnancy , I didn’t get contractions until 3 hours later . Interestingly I never lost my mucus plug until I was fully dilated .

elliesmummy19 · 19/11/2022 17:40

I was in for induction. Checked my cervix when I moved to the delivery ward and I was already 4cm so they decided to break my waters then the contractions started pretty much instantly.

Icantspeakrightnow · 19/11/2022 17:45

37 weeks - I got up at 3am for a wee, got back in bed and thought to myself ‘baby we’re ready to meet you’….immediately my waters went POP all over the bed.

cavily1806 · 19/11/2022 17:47

With my first I woke up desperate for a wee, stood up and they exploded. With my second, I was induced and an hour in I felt uncomfortable, not in pain, so was pacing my cubicle and they exploded. Luckily the curtain was closed as the poor lady in the next cubicle was eating and I heard her so omg gross as some of it went under the curtain 😬

No I had a waterproof mattress protector luckily. I'd also put lots of old towels on the bed that night (think I sensed it was time).

user2391 · 19/11/2022 18:30

Both times about 10mins before baby was born, just as I started to push

tealandteal · 19/11/2022 18:31

First DS about 5 minutes before he was born. DS2 was born en caul.

chineapplepunks · 19/11/2022 18:33

In the birthing pool towards the end of my labour! DD arrived not long after.

ShowOfHands · 19/11/2022 18:35

Out of the blue both times. First time I was sitting on the sofa watching a film. Second, I was asleep in bed.

Tsunami like both times but because I was wearing clothes and jumped up in shock, it was the clothes and carpet which took the brunt, not the sofa or bed.

intheheights · 19/11/2022 19:06

My waters were still intact when his head came out but broke as his body came out. I was in the birthing pool so didn't even notice anyway!

EveryLittleWish · 19/11/2022 20:50

@Whatisthefuss mine was clear and had no odour . It was no different than dropping a huge glass of water onto the bed . It dried and didn’t ruin my mattress .
