Why am I so scared!

39+2 with my third baby, 2 previous vaginal births. First was an induction, second I went in labour spontaneously and had a water birth. Had a small tear woth both. I've tried not to think about labour but now it's getting closer I keep thinking about it and I'm so scared. It makes me feel so sick, I feel terrified. Has anyone else felt extra nervous with second plus babies?

I’m 38+1 with my second baby and I’m terrified.

I had quite a traumatic birth with my son 6 years ago and have been advised to have a c-section (ideally next week!) due to these issues plus baby is ginormous apparently and my nerves are gone.

I think you go from the fear of the unknown, to the fear of the known. Plus we are more aware of our mortality when we already have children, I think anyway.

Best of luck, I’m sure it will all be fine!

I'm in the middle of the induction process with my first and I'm petrified!

PritiPatelsMaker · 19/11/2022 13:52

@KSAM I think the "oh fuck, what have I done" feeling is quite normal as birth approaches

@CurlyNo2 is baby here yet? Hoping the whole process is much smoother for you this time around

@CSR721 how bloody exciting! Please keep us updated on how you're getting on. I love a good birth thread! Wink

I think because deep down you know it's going to hurt and then all the work and shock that is coming even though you've done it before!!!

CSR721 · 19/11/2022 14:01

@PritiPatelsMaker thank you I will do. Currently have a balloon catheter in, was having contractions through the night but seem to have stopped now. Have another hour and then they'll take it out and see if they are able to break my waters, if not they'll put a pessary. Thought of having my waters broken is making me really anxious 😱 but I'm looking forward to having this balloon out as its not particularly pleasant!

PritiPatelsMaker · 19/11/2022 14:02

I had my waters broken with DC1 when things had slowed down. Really can't remember it being painful and it definitely sped things back up Flowers

CSR721 · 19/11/2022 23:51

@PritiPatelsMaker that's good to know thank you!! I've had the balloon out, examination showed they'd be able to break my waters so they will probably do it when the ward isnt so busy. She also did a membrane sweep to see if things get started on their own 🤞

Baby boy arrived on Friday night weighing 8lb 11.5oz after an emergency c-section as my waters had started to trickle that morning (I previously had a group b positive result) so they didn’t want to take any chances. I was 39+1 weeks.

Were both doing really well and the section was amazing! Couldn’t believe how calm and quick it was, I’d highly recommend. A bit of pain the first 2 days, I won’t lie, but it’s starting to ease off today.

PritiPatelsMaker · 20/11/2022 08:51

@CSR721 that's all positive. I hope you've had some progress overnight

@CurlyNo2 Congratulations! That all sounds really, really positive Flowers

Yes I’m expecting DD2 in March and feel more nervous than last time which was your typical induction/forceps job. I feel like last time I got away without having to push the baby out but this time I will be expected to do it! But don’t know how! If that makes sense. I had no urge to push but know forceps twice is very rare.

Bronnau · 20/11/2022 09:19

Yeah! I'm 28 weeks with my third, and was absolutely breezy about birth, practicing my hypnobirthing techniques etc... Then last week I had some pretty bad braxton hicks, which reminded me of the exact feeling of labour. I now remember how painful it is and am trying not to think about it too much!

username8888 · 20/11/2022 09:23

I think you're brave for going for 3, two painful births were enough for me. Try to remember you do forget the pain, and do all your preparation for the birth. You do forget the pain, but being heavily pregnant and approaching childbirth does bring back those memories unfortunately

This made me laugh, I think you're right 😂 I can't believe I've got to push another human out of me, god it doesn't bear thinking about 😂 40+4 currently and no sign of any movement

@CSR721 I had my waters broken with my first and don't recall that part being painful, hopefully things have moved along for you since your last post🤞

@CurlyNo2 congratulations 🎊 that's amazing, sounds like a lovely birth ❤️

@Cuppasoupmonster I didn't get an urge to push with my second either, the midwife was like push when you get the urge? Sorry love you'll have to give me a bit more help than that 😂 I said can I push now I don't know??? and she was like yes push so I just did it and hoped for the best

@username8888 well, I'm either brave or stupid 😂

I'm seriously thinking about having and epi this time round, I really don't think I can bring myself to do it woth gas and air again. I think whats making me feel more scares, is that my first two were only 6-7lbs. At my growth scan at 38 weeks this time round baby was measuring 8lb already

My second was 8lb 3oz and it was so much easier than the first. I think the hub helps to cushion things Grin
