What helped you get contractions started after ARM?

I've been in hospital a few days, just had my waters broken finally, attempting a VBAC. I didn't labour at all with my first so it's all new to me and new to my body!

If you had your waters broken, what worked to start contractions for you? I'd like to avoid the drip if possible.

Me again 😊 I did have the drip - I bounced on a ball, did some walking, contractions started but they weren’t strong enough (apparently 🙄) after a couple of hours so drip it was.

With hindsight i should’ve asked for an examination before agreeing to the drip as they said the reason I needed it was ‘because if you were further along you would be in more pain than you are’. I have a very high pain threshold and in hindsight think I was making progress fine, they just wanted to speed things up and free up the room.

So yes, have them check rather than just ‘you’re not screaming so can’t be going that quickly, let’s put you on the drip’.

Good luck!!!

Nipple twiddling (by me), oxytocin playlist on Spotify and bouncing on a birthing ball. Went into labour within an hour and baby was born three hours later. Fingers tightly crossed for you.

Hello @Cuppasoupmonster!

I ended up having the drip in the end as nothing was happening. So far so good, 4 in 10 contractions but they don't feel particularly strong yet. Just waiting to hear whether they'll examine me at 6 or 8pm. I'm keeping my expectations low so I don't get my hopes up and be disappointed again, which has been the theme of the last few days here!
