My obstetrician says it’s vanishingly rare but I wanted to test the waters on MN Grin

Second baby due in March, first was induction/forceps job…

Not me personally, but I've only seen a second forceps delivery for a STM in theatres less than a handful of times. Your obstetrician isn't wrong, it is rare.

Anecdotally, my mum had ventouse/forceps with me, emergency C-section (undiagnosed major placenta praevia), and my brother was a forceps delivery. She then went on to have two regular deliveries after him.

Thank you Dyra, your poor mum! What a trooper!

Yes, me! Induction and forceps for first baby. Spontaneous labour and forceps again for second baby 2 years later. Got spinal anaesthetic for first, but only local anaesthetic for second (not enough staff for epidural). Both brutal and took many weeks to recover. Wishing you a better experience second time around.

Yes, but my first was a c-section 4 weeks early, so maybe doesn’t count?
second DS was late and ventouse delivery.

All three of my DC were born by forceps. I didn't realise this was at all unusual!

Thanks for replies! The consultant told me 97% chance of a straightforward VB after instruments which seemed very high - almost too high!
