I'm watching the Emma's Birth programme on TLC and realising that I actually remember hardly nothing of my labour!! It wasn't horrendous, waters broke early Thursday morning and due to HBP has to stay in- started induction about 3am Friday morning- ready to push at 10am and DD arrived 25 mins later. Only little stress I remember is them saying 'if her heart rate drops again during this contraction we're going to EMC' that must have registered as I got her out. If anything the stitches after are more painful and memorable than the birth. I feel so bad about this... is this normal?

I think unless very traumatic, labour and birth memories fade much more rapidly than normal. You're exhausted, you may have had strong painkillers, and then there's all those hormones rushing around. Probably a good thing, or the birth rate would be a lot lower.

I know both of mine are pretty hazy now.

I think this is pretty normal, especially if you gas & air or pethidine etc
I always think birth is a bit of an out of body experience, you kind of zone out for alot of it. Its probably nature's coping mechanism to encourage us to have more babies 😂 x

It’s surprised me how little I remember of it, even of the parts from before I had any pain relief.

I was in labour for 36 hours before we progressed to EMC. Logically I know it was horrible and I struggled, but it doesn’t feel like it happened to me? If anything I think it’s been more traumatic for DH who remembers it all in great detail.

I remember all of it. Ended in an EMCS and wish I could forget a lot. ELCS I remember that all too, but that was a good experience and I am glad.

Yes I’ve blocked out most of it!

Nope a lot of mine is a complete blank. Just gas & air so not totally out of it. I remember snippets but looking back it feels like I can remember about 10 minutes of 6hrs. I think I read somewhere once you experience some form of amnesia after birth. I think it's natures way to try and protect us and make sure we go on to have more so unless it was particularly traumatic your memories of it fade pretty quick.
