What was your third Labour like?

I’m 33 weeks with my 3rd and getting a bit nervous about labour. It’s been 6.5 years since my last.

1st - PROM, 2 days early, long painful back to back labour (about 17 hrs), gas&air, pethidine, eventual water bath, opted for a natural 3rd stage but then had a PPH. 2nd degree tear. He was 8lb12oz

2nd - PROM, 4 days late, much quicker (about 5 hours) but still painful, tens machine, gas&air, water birth (despite being consultant led I was allowed this as long as I kept my canula-ed arm out the water). She shot out and was a bit contused. 2nd degree tear, 9lb 7.5oz

even though my daughter’s birth was a far far more positive experience, the uncertainty of it all is hitting me again I suppose. The possibility of a PPH, the possible speed (hospital is 30 mins away), the fact my waters ruptured in the middle
of the night both times, that this baby might be even huger, the PAIN….

Also that a pool might not be available. Water helps me so massively in terms of pain and reducing stress, I don’t know what I’d do without it.

My 3rd was a homebirth, 3 hours from first contraction to baby. I was already 4cm as had a sweep that morning.
Intense, but amazing.

My 1st was 12 hours, 2nd 6 hours.
So definitely faster each time.

2nd - 40+9 - 1hr 30mins in labour

Following. Currently 38 weeks with my third.

dc1 - 8 hours - 37 plus 5 - 5lb15 - water, gas and air. Born with cord wrapped around neck twice.

dc2 - 7 hours - 40 plus 5 - 9lb 3 - gas and air. On a drip for antibiotics. Exhausting.

dc3 - 2 hours - 40 plus 9 - 7lb - gas and air, no time for water, very intense once it got going and the most painful of them all, and lots of false start to labour. Born with a true knot in cord and wrapped around neck.

best of luck!

Do you know if your third is back to back too?

My third was almost exactly the same as my first, both back to back.

Second was much quicker and easier but he wasn't back to back.

Camesawconquered · 02/10/2022 07:08

Oh and third was smaller than second but bigger than first.

nowaynotnownotever · 02/10/2022 08:59

3rd was my favourite! 2.5hrs home water birth, very relaxed, slight graze only.

And over a lb smaller than my 2nd that was faster so they don't necessarily get bigger each time!

Thanks everyone. Lots of different experiences. Quicker but not too quick would be ideal!
