39+2 - sharp pain in left side about every 10 mins... any ideas?

it's sort of like a knotting, but v specificaly on the left hand side, just above pelvis - not sure what part of the baby could be kicking/prodding me there (am told baby is fully engaged).

i also have the usual rippling braxton hicks from top of tummy and bottom of bump.. think these are still upwards ripplings rather than downwards

building up to backache /period pains by nightimes for about the last week but confused by the sharp pain in left, as it really takes my breath away and makes me cry out, have to breath through it etc; lasts about 10 seconds..

anyone had anything similar?

tks

Have you called the midwife?

Beapatient · 25/01/2008 13:22

yes, their lines have been busy for ages. busy day or they're off the hook following the maternity trust reviews :-)

do you have an alternative number? you could truy ringing the delivery suite if you're concerned.

Beapatient · 25/01/2008 13:32

as it's a side pain rather than central and can't find anything by googling i'm guessing it's not labour (first timer), and don't feel ill, so not too concerned - more curious so thought i'd see if any similar experiences.

will keep trying midwife number - feel a bit silly ringing labour ward to ask what it is..

Absolutely. Ring the delivery suite. I am no expert. But I think you should be talking to someone who is an expert.

If I didn't get any answers on the phone, I think I'd show in person.

eleusis · 25/01/2008 13:35

Don't feel silly. This is their job. If there is one time in a woman's life she is entitled to be selfish, I think 9 months pregnant is it.

EffiePerine · 25/01/2008 13:37

Exactly, Eleusis. They aren't going to criticise you if you ring with strange pains at 39+

eleusis · 25/01/2008 13:42

And come back and tell us what they say.
