Group Strep B and ELCS

I took a private GSB test last week (when I thought I may be having a vaginal birth) but in the last few days have agreed an ELCS with consultant (due to a few reasons), to take place in 2 weeks.

This morning my results came back from the test as positive.

Does anyone know if you still need antibiotics for GSB when having a CS? Have tried Googling but answer seems to be mixed.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I think you have IV abx as standard when you have a c section?

You have IV abx. during an ELCS as standard but even if you didn’t you don’t need them for the GBS. It’s spread to baby during vaginal delivery.

Yes as above. I had a lot of concerns over this as my first baby was extremely ill with gbs and had an extended NICU stay. However because I had an ELCS and was having IV antibiotics with my second they explained there would be no risk. If however you end up going into labour before your ELCS then you would need to alert the medical team so you can have antibiotics in time if you end up delivering vaginally-get to the hospital quickly was the advice I was given, don't wait for contractions to reach the 3 per 10 minutes or whatever it is

Thanks, I discussed it today and they said it will inky be an issue if the labour starts before C section
