Breech Delivery

Current 35+4 with DC3 who has been breech for the past 5 weeks. No other issues so far.

My midwife has advised me that as of 36 weeks I will obviously need to start considering my birth plan, however I don't feel I can fully plan with the uncertainty of if baby will turn.

My preference is a homebirth or alternative a birthing unit, the thought of a hospital birth fills me with dread, as does a C-section.
I have a meeting with a consultant tomorrow who I believe will check babies position and offer a ECV, however I know these aren't always successful.

Does anyone have any experience with ECV or babies that were breech that turned late?

I have tried swimming, yoga, kneeling / sitting in certain positions etc but baby is clearly very comfortable.

Hi @samthenanny they say that there's only a 5% chance that babies will turn back after a successful ECV so 🤞

In terms of pain / discomfort I'd say it was about a 7 or 8 based on my pain tolerance, which I like to think is pretty high. They did offer gas and air but I didn't feel I needed it especially as it was all over so quickly. I'd say I clenched my fists and squeezed my eyes shut for the majority of it but it was worth it and bareable.

What I would say is I am quite tender now and a little uncomfortable, again nothing that needs any pain relief (yet).

I hope your little one turns for you but honestly if they do offer you a ECV I'd recommend it. Personally even if ours couldn't be turned or worst case she turns back I'd still have tried just to know that we did.

Yay! Amazing! Good job you! Good job baby!

That was the exact reasoning I chose to schedule an ECV, though was fortunate to not need it in the end. Everything crossed for you that baby stays in position, and labour and delivery goes well.

Thank you @Dyra I really hope as I'm almost 37 weeks that she will decide she's comfortable head down. The consultant said there is a 5% chance of baby turning back after a successful ECV so fingers crossed!

Idk if this helps, but I was born breech (arse first), at home, and apparently "just popped out" 😳. I was my mum's 2nd child.

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 27/08/2022 00:24

Ah, just saw that baby turned. Woop!

Hope she stays put!

TheHopefulMum · 27/08/2022 08:09

Thank you both! ❤️ Praying she stays down but if she doesn't as long as she's healthy and born safely that's the main thing.

How did it go?!

TheHopefulMum · 22/09/2022 12:45

Hi @pac35 everything went absolutely fine thank you. Baby Ivy was born 2.38am on the 20th of September and I got my homebirth.

She is an absolute dream so far and the ECV was definitely worth it.
