Please don't laugh.... when can you lie on your stomach after a CS?

Hi

Sorry if this is obvious! I had a CS 3.5 wks ago - can I sleep/lie on my front? The MWs in hospital always told me to lie on my back - not sure why or for how long, they didn't specifically tell me NOT to lie on front!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I haven't heard that one before. I slept on my stomach as soon as it was comfortable - can't remember when that was though.

They probably meant for me to just lie on my back for the first bit after the section but because I didn't check I haven't lied on my front yet.

My left side is still a bit sore and didn't want to make it worse

I don't think you'll make it worse tbh. I went by the rule, if it's uncomfortable, don't do it!

I did on the first night, lots of cushions under me so I was sort of tilted with the weight away from my scar, but it was fine. Your midwives are odd

whenever it feels comfortable to do so. took me a few weeks to get to this point.

kindersurprise · 16/01/2008 22:10

oh, strange, I was told to lie on my front as soon as it was comfortable. The physio said that it was good for the tummy muscles.

Kinder - my Mum said after each of her 8 births the MWs told her to lie on her stomach for her tummy muscles as well! I wasn't sure if it was something about putting too much weight out on the scars of a CS or something .

Thanks for reassuring me!

loucee i remember having a leg wax when ds was 5 weeks and having to lie on my stomach and it was still a little uncomfortable. (not enough to stop me being de-haired mind you!). Was definately better by 9 weeks as I was doing yoga.

BibiThree · 17/01/2008 19:17

when you're comfortable doing so. I wasn't until at least 5 weeks afterwards.

I dont know medicaly what right but I lay on my stomach two days after as it was the only thing that eased the afterpains.

fishie · 17/01/2008 19:21

i should think it will be fine. but i leaked milk terribly when i slept on my front so beware.

kitstwins · 18/01/2008 12:32

Lying on your front really helps post birth as it encourages everything to drop back into it's pre-birth place. However, post-caesarean this can be a bit sore so the only tip would be to try it and see how you go. If it feels uncomfortable then don't push it - try again in a few days or so.

Kx
