Recovery 10 days post c-section

Hope I’ve posted this in the correct place!

For those of you who’ve had a c section, how did you feel 10 days after? I had mine last Monday and today is probably the first day where I felt like I haven’t been hit by a bus. C section combined with intense tail bone pain (which seems to have gotten worse post-pregnancy) and breastfeeding has really been the hardest thing I’ve gone through mentally and physically.

Also for any mums with a lot of belly overhang, any tips on keeping incision dry?

Oh and I’ve tried countless times to look at the area with a mirror and I still can’t see my incision! Don’t want to pull my belly up so much, I damage it. Where is it?!

I'm 12 days post-section and pretty much back to normal but it was an elective and my second, and recovery has been v fast compared to my previous EMCS (although that wasn't at all bad, but I am back driving this time already and wasn't near that last time!)

Hugasauras · 29/06/2022 16:36

The incision is v low down, your best bet is to take a photo while lying down or ask a partner! You'll probably be amazed by how small and neat it is. It heals super quickly.

Wahay, congratulations on your baby and swift recovery! 💜 I have another Q if you don’t mind: Did you have days where you had less blood followed by A LOT? I just went to the loo and there was so much blood compared to past 3 days where it’s been very little. I’m worried I’m going backwards in my recovery, as I haven’t bled much.

I've bled a lot less this time round generally, mine has already stopped, but with my first I do remember it being variable and also sometimes little gushes on standing. It took a few weeks to taper off. Sounds all normal! Just keep a watch for any smell or anything to suggest infection.

I tried! I pulled my belly so back, I thought I was going to reopen wound (impossible I know, but I’m paranoid!)

I wonder if my belly overhang is just so much, cos I really can’t see it! I’ve been putting fresh gauze in between the flap 3 times a day, I hope it’s actually touching the incision!

Thank you for your reassurance, I’ll definitely keep on eye on it! What other normal activities have you resumed 12 days later? Have you managed to sleep on your side yet?! I can’t wait!!

Ah I remember last time the side sleeping thing! V annoying. This time I've been fine although it's easier on my left than right for some reason. I still feel comfier than last weeks of pregnancy though as I had such bad hip pain I had to turn over every 15 mins 😬

I think 10-14 days is the turning point for most people. I’m 27 days post section and feel mostly ok still tenderness in stomach and in wound but I did have an infection. I stopped bleeding at around 19 days post section and would say it was probably worse days 10-14 as I was up and moving around and going out think gravity plays a part. About the belly overhang am in that club to I have taken photos on my wound it is exactly on your bikini line. I was told to shower it each day with clear water no soap in that area and then dry it with kitchen roll or a clean towel. I was putting a maternity pad on it at first and was told by hospital not to do this only when going out so it doesn’t rub.

I had an EMCS and was out and about driving on day 10. I just put DD in a sling so that I wasn't lifting the pushchair in and out of the boot.

I tended to let my incision air dry after a shower.

Congratulations on your little one and speedy recovery to you!
I’m 14 days past my ELCS and can definitely see the incision, there’s a bit of a lip unfortunately where the skin is splitting and I still can’t walk too far as I get this heavy bruised feeling and shooting pains. Managed to sleep on my side last night though. Yay!

Yay, congrats on being able to sleep on your side!! It’s the best feeling, can’t wait to try in a few days!

Congratulations on making it 27 days 💕 when did you stop taking any pain relief? I was prescribed maxigesic ibruprofen and paracetamol and I’ve run out today

I had a section 18 weeks ago.
Spotting stopped completely on day 5. It really was just spotting but then restarted day 17 and then was on/off for a week. Period returned at week 13 (formula feeding). Off all pain meds by about 2 weeks.

CAnary0 · 01/07/2022 06:17

I was still on ibuprofen and paracetamol until about four weeks post section I think. I definitely overdid it at first which didn’t help. Thought I was further along the road to recovery than I actually was! I wasn’t needing it as constantly by then, but had that bruised feeling if I did too much or didn’t rest enough.
At the stage you’re at I was feeling similar I think. Some people seem to heal faster and some don’t I suppose!
after baths I laid down flat for a while to allow the incision to dry properly which seemed to help. Also sometimes used a cold hairdryer to dry it.

Flowerbug1994 · 01/07/2022 10:53

@Bigdeluxe1 i stopped taking pain relief at about 2 weeks but that was taking it everyday before the pain come. I still for the past 2 weeks have taken it before I’ve gone out if I remember otherwise I’ve found it am out for a couple of hours doing abit of walking then I come home and I am in pain. I was sent home with naproxen, hydracodine and paracetamol my hospital seems to be good in sending home with strong meds others seem to be just telling people to take paracetamol and Ibruprofen which is madness after major surgery.

Dyra · 01/07/2022 12:23

Hope you're feeling even better now at 12 days pp @Bigdeluxe1 . In regards to painkillers, I stopped taking them regularly after about a week. Completely after about 3. Never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. I can't speak to tail bone pain, though I do have back pain I didn't have prior to the epidural. I hope that's gotten better for you too.

Hopefully your incision is healing well. I've not had the best time. I've tried keeping it dry, but it's been healing very slowly, and has occasionally reopened. It's right on the bikini line. I couldn't lift my overhang for a while either.
