Positive induction stories

Hi all

I'm 39+3 and getting induced tomorrow as my BP was high today at a routine appointment and they had to give me some medicine to bring it down.

Baby had ctg and was happy so they sent me home and will call me in morning to bring me in for induction. Dr said at this point in my pregnancy it's better to try bring her than let her stay put and manage my BP. So I'm trusting the consultants opinion to recommend induction.

All I tend to see is induction horror stories, is there anyone who had okay inductions? I'm actually quite scared 🙈😬😫

My 1st was a spontaneous labour, 2nd planned C-section for a breech baby and my 3rd was induced because DC was overdue. The induction was really positive, much better than the other two, dispite DC3 being a huge baby. One advantage for me was being in hospital right from the start so I didn't need to get stressed about the journey to hospital while in labor. Also the midwife stays with you almost all the time of you are induced, rather than just checkinh in with you every now and then. I found it really reassuring to have the midwife there. I know some people do have tough inductions but plenty of spontaneous labours are tough too, so maybe some horror stories are blamed on the induction, when actually it would have been difficult anyway. Good luck!

I've had two inductions, the first one was a long drawn out affair but the second we were home less than 24 hours after I went in, one pessary that they had to take out and give antidote for but she was on her way by then, two paracetamol and a bit of gas and air, job done!

Just ask lots of questions and what your options are at each stage, and be aware you can absolutely have gas and air for examinations etc if you want it but they probably won't offer it if you don't ask.

That's reassuring that someone will be with me the whole time, and also good point about not having to worry about journey to hospital etc.

How did you get on, OP?

How did you get on, OP?

I was induced last Tuesday 1 x gel pessary, I'd already being having tightenings earlier that day and was already 1cm when I went in.

6 hours later no change... They offered me a second gel but as I was having mild contractions I refused.

Contractions started that afternoon and gradually got more consistent overnight, by Wednesday morning I was 3-4cm and transferred to labour ward, I then was in labour most of the day a evening and at 1.34am Thursday 16th gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

My experience of induction wasn't a great one just because of the sheer length of time it took to progress, and I was in hospital on a hot day opposed to being in the comfort of my own home to progress.

However I have my little girl now so all is good ✨🥰
