Did you go into labour without losing mucus plug/a show/waters breaking?

FTM here and 39 weeks...just wondering if you went into labour without signs of any of the above? Or do you need to have seen a show first or lose mucus plug?

Wondering as not had any of that but braxton hicks are stronger and lower back pain is really bad atm, think it's going to be a while still though.

Yep...2 babies here and no plug until well into labour. Waters broke as pushing both times. Both labours were contractions first!

sanityisamyth · 25/05/2022 05:08

Yep. I had 80 hours of contractions but the midwife had to break my waters when they put a clip on DS's head to monitor him, as he kept flapping about too much to measure his heart rate etc.

3 babies - only had a show on no. 2. Didn’t lose the plug pre-labour on any of them.

I had period type cramps in the evenings about a week before baby came, it was my body making adjustments to baby’s position.

I lost some mucus plug but it wasn’t very obvious.

My waters didn’t break until about 2 hours before baby was born so I was definitely in labour before that happened!

Hope all goes well for you! x

Yes for both pregnancies. I've never seen my plug and had my waters broken once at the hospital.
Both times my contractions kicked everything off

Gosh it really is so different for everyone!

My waters broke in dramatic TV/movie fashion and I went into labour a few hours later. My son was premature though so not the ideal/typical situation..! Best wishes OP 😘

Dc1 - Labour progressing, midwife had to break waters.

Dc2 - waters broke but labour didn't start for over 30 hours

nometo4 · 25/05/2022 06:22

3 babies, waters always broke in the labour ward.

Mommabear20 · 25/05/2022 06:25

No show, no plug, and waters went a few hours after labour started with both.

#1: Contractions all day, lots of bloody mucus, let the midwife break my waters in the MLU. Still can't understand why she offered or I agreed to that.

#2: Contractions all day, no mucus that I can remember, called the HB midwife in the early evening and had the baby about three hours later. Much more bearable labour as contractions were cushioned by all the fluid, almost right up until the birth. Waters went so late that the MWs kept asking if it really hadn't happened yet! It all finally gushed out into the pool about 5-10 mins before the baby was born.

Best wishes, OP!

No plug until quite far into labour and they had to break my waters during!

lifeturnsonadime · 28/05/2022 16:09

My daughter was born in her caul, it's quite rare I believe.

With my first dd I started contractions and had a show my waters broke just before I gave birth. With my second dd (three weeks ago so I remember it well!) I was 10cm dilated and my waters broke. They gushed and the contractions intensified before I gave birth. I didn't have any show when my contractions began though, just contractions.

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2022 23:59

Three babies here. Only remember having a show with DC1, but I was already in early labour and he arrived 12 hours later. With all three my waters broke just as the baby was about to be born.

PeekAtYou · 29/05/2022 00:07

I've had 3 deliveries and never broken my own water, had a show or lost my mucus plug

Baby 1 - show, then strong contractions, but waters not broke until late in labour (12 hours). Had all sorts for the pain, then epidural, forceps, ventouse etc. 10lb 2 oz, it hurt more once the waters had gone.
Baby 2 - nothing. Didn't realise I was in labour, had a bit of a tummy ache which I put down to eating something that did not agree. Suddenly realised I was in labour when the tummy ache became every other minute - was 9cm when arrived at hospital. Also had epidural as the anaesthetist was walking past, probably shouldn't have in retrospect, as it slowed things down, although, 2 hours pain free labour. Waters went in last 30 mins, think they got the crochet needle out to burst them. 9lb 2oz. My smallest.
Baby 3 - was induced due to 2 weeks over. Constant agony. No drugs or epidural. No show, and waters late on, again the crochet needle. 1 hour in established labour, but god knows how many hours in agony before. 9lb 13oz
Baby 4 - was induced 4-5 weeks early due to large baby, hated being induced as knew how much it hurts, and how long it takes. Snook out from hospital during the process, then wished I hadn't as waters went in McD drive in and had to hot-foot it back to hospital. 6 hours, had epidural though. 9lb 10oz. Again, waters broke with "help" about an hour before he was born.

To answer the original question, not many shows, and not much waters either. If I had my time again, I'd avoid being induced.

Congrats OP, and hoping you have a good labour, but yeah, no waters or plug is not that unusual.
