Shower after c-section

Hi ladies

How long after your c-section did you have a shower and when did you wash baby after coming home from the hospital? How long did your dressing stay on for, can you shower with the dressing on?

I must admit I’m a bit paranoid about bacteria etc. in the hospital so just wanna shower ASAP when I’m discharged but is it safe.

Thank you for any advice.

I showered about 24 hours after my section with the dressing on and then the next day with it off (I was a total baby about having the dressing off as I thought my insides would fall out but I was totally fine!) I literally washed everywhere else with soap apart from the wound area and just let water wash over it. I was in hospital for a week (complications with baby not me!) and showered every day in the same way with no infections or problems. Just make sure to Pat dry and make sure it’s all nicely aired out before you cover it. Big pants and bottoms that go up to your belly button are a must!
Baby wasn’t bathed for maybe 2 weeks? I’ve known people to bath sooner in just water with no problems though but it depends on your baby, some are a bit dry when they’re born in which case best not to. I believe the advice is to bath when the cord drops off.

Also, don’t forget that bacteria isn’t all bad, overwashing can cause problems too!

24 hours after.
Came home and showered straight away. Washed everywhere but scar with soap.

I showered 8 hours after my emergency section, at the urging of hospital staff. They were very keen to get me up and moving.

I had a shower in hospital as soon as my catheter came out. They redressed the wound afterwards. I didn't bath the baby until after the cord fell off.

I think it was the following morning but not sure now. I remember needing a hand as it was one over the bath rather than a walk in x

About 9 hours after

Mine was the morning after at hospital once the catheter was removed. I had a pico dressing which stayed on for a week so just had to avoid water hitting it directly but it held up well in the shower.

With the baby I just did top and tail washes until the cord fell off (although we were back in hospital between days 5 and 9 anyway so had no choice).
