Scared !!!!

Hi i am having an elective c section in 7 weeks read alot about this on i net but pretty scared can anyone tell me "do i need to go into labour ie induced contractions n stuff before the c section is started " i thought it was just a straight forward operation . i have had a c section before but that was a crash section so never new what was happening really any advice would be greatfully received

sheena and elective section is very different from a crash section. You will go into hospital the day before and get all the booking and stuff done.

You will then be told when to come back the next day and given a 'slot'. Then it will be a case of waiting until it is your turn.

There is no labour. If you happen to go into labour before your section then you go to hospital and they will give you a section.

There is no need to worry, it will all be very calm and relaxed, no panic etc.

oh sweetheart, what a shame you have not had this all set out for you by the hospital.it is as kitty says, no labour will be induced, you will be booked in, have your spinal block, and taken in to have your baby born. should be calm and well managed. you can ask for the screen to be lowered so you can see your baby born, discover the sex of oyur baby ,if you don;t know it already, have skin to skin and even your choice of music! should be lovely

An elective is way different to an emergency. It will be fine. All relaxed. Staff all joking with you, your birth partner can go into theatre with you and your baby will be brought straight to you when he/she is born

Im very surprised no one has spoken to you about this yet? But you will go into the hospital a day or so before and they will check you over, take some blood samples and the midwife and doctors will talk to you about what will happen on the day.

There is no need to worry, honestly. The only thing with elective caesareans is that if an emergency comes in then your CS would be delayed.

If you were to go into labour beforehand then obviously you must go into hospital and
(depending on the reasons for you having and CS this time)your operation would be brought forward.

SHEENA1 - I had an elective c section 10 months ago and it was the most fantastic experience ever - way different from an emergency section (which is what I had the first time)

Its so relaxed and planned....try if you can to enoyt it. I really cannot believe that none of your HCP have talked this over with you!!

aw thankyou so much everyone i was panicin my comunity midwife doesn't see me very oten and when i am up hospital seeing my consultaint she just says we'll book u in get anethitist to speak to u at 36 weeks not saying very much bout cs

Sheena. the anaethetist will speak to your prior to the CS. Ask you about previous anaesthetic etc and whether you have had any problems folowing . Will then discuss best option of anaesthetic, which is usually a spinal, a bit like an epidural. Im sure you probably had a general anaesthetic last time?

Another doctor will probably check you over and check you are generally fit and well and listen to check you chest is clear.

The midwife will weigh you and do the other stuff i said previously.

You will be fine and i promise it'll be very relaxed! make sure they explain everything when you go to the hospital and if they dont, then ask, Dont come away worried!

My first was an ES and this is an 'elective' for various reasons.

I was told I would see the consultant at 36 weeks which I did, then last Thurs I was given an appt with the aneathitist.. (38 weeks) (who though looked ancient, was FANTASTIC and put me well at ease) and also the MW at the hospital.

If you got into labour early, it wont be a problem. I was asked my plan for if I go into labour early, to which I replied get taken in the car and turn up (basically my reasons for CS are going ahead with it come early arrival or not!!)

Am booked in next week on the 16th, first in queue
