Induction - BORED NOW

Sprat12 · 19/04/2022 15:39

Went in to be induced midday yesterday, had pessary in (isn't that fun 🙄). Started getting cramps and twinges within about an hour.

I was feeling soooo smug with myself. Had visions of going into full blown labour, nice quick easy birth and being home by this afternoon.

Cramps and twinges died off by about 10pm last night and not a friggin bean since.

I've had pessary re-inserted, no further dilated but MW can now feel baby's head so hoping that is positive.

I am BORED. Please, send good thoughts / positive stories to keep me occupied!

They are going to try and break my waters this evening, but if it's not favourable then I need a 12hr break. I think I'll ask to go home for a bit if this is the case as think I may go mad just sitting in the ward waiting!

Good luck hope things happen soon for you. Are you allowed to go for a walk?

Sprat12 · 19/04/2022 16:30

Yes thankfully, I’ve been for a few walks which has broken the day up a bit but not sure it has speeded anything along 😢

I'm not sure if it's true that they only give you 3 pessaries and then into a c section anymore?

My youngest dc is 9 so things might have changed.

I remember needing two with dd3 and then it took a while
To get going, good luck op - lots of Walking around and hopefully this time tomorrow you'll have your dc Smile

I was in this position. They broke my waters I was 3cm and all hell broke loose she was born 2 hours later! Good luck.

womaniswomaniswoman · 19/04/2022 16:38

When I was in your position I had a 3-hour bath on the ward with my favourite book Grin

Not sure it was a wise idea in terms of speeding anything up, but it was the last time for a decade I read in peace...

Sprat12 · 19/04/2022 16:54

@20viona while scary I’m sure, that sounds amazing right now 🤣 I really shouldn’t whinge as I know it can take days and days but I am bored to tears already. I don’t do being bored well!

@womaniswomaniswoman that’s not a bad call to be fair, I’ve got a book that I’m stuck into so I may just go for a bath. The shower this morning on the ward was pitiful at best so a nice long soak in the bath would be welcomed.

I’m still only 1cm so not holding out much hope 🙄

I was 49 hours from first pessary to baby being born so...you know, settle in!

ILikeCrapTelly · 19/04/2022 17:03

@Sprat12 I've never been induced so have nothing useful to say!

But I'm so envious you're at the point of being almost ready to meet your baby and have those gorgeous newborn cuddles Smile I have two DC and am done, but ohhhh that magical time of them being so close to arrive ❤️

Wishing you a safe delivery.

Sprat12 · 19/04/2022 22:12

Cervix isn't favourable for waters being broken, which means another 24 hour pessary is going in tomorrow at 9am ish. It's going to be a loonnngggg week!

In the meantime, I am likely to murder the delightful woman on my ward who has been playing TikTok videos at FULL VOLUME for the last 4 hours.

Who does that on a shared ward ffs??

I second the bath and book suggestion. Both will be such luxuries once your baby is out! Savour them now.

pumpkinpie01 · 19/04/2022 22:17

Might not be a long week , mine didn't start until the 3rd pessary then I had a 3 and a 1/2 hour labour , good luck !

Ilovepotato · 19/04/2022 22:27

I'm currently mid outpatient induction, but my first dc was induced by pessary, and like the pp I had no action till the 3rd and then it all went cray cray! 0-100 for sure.

nopenotplaying · 19/04/2022 22:35

Have a good nights sleep and ask them for a sweep in the morning. Should be able to do it if you are 1 cm xxx

fossilsmorefossils · 19/04/2022 22:46

Mine took almost 4 days. I had downloaded a good book on my iphone. I also had a few nice neighbours on the ward that were waiting. I recommend lots of naps, when things do ramp up you'll be wide awake.

Although induction is boring, it's so incredibly lovely to have a baby! And you're almost there! You're going to have a squishy newborn in a short while, I wish you much happiness.

SaraKitty · 20/04/2022 18:12

I had my waters broken at around 3.30pm (didn’t have pessary as was already 2-3cm). This is my 3rd birth . No contractions yet and I was sure things would move quickly . Doctor said they can leave me overnight and if nothing has progressed by the morning start the drip. I was trying to avoid the drip as I’m a VBAC (had a vaginal delivery then a c section before ). So disappointed so far but also kind of happy to go for a nice sleep tonight as the ward is quiet.
