How to induce labour?

boymummys · 18/04/2022 08:04

I'm 41 weeks today and I've officially had enough now, I'm so tired I can't sleep! I'll actually sleep better once baby is here, no shoes fit me my feet are that swollen, and my hands don't even feel like my hands! Between heart burn, acid reflux and sciatica I'm on the verge of pulling him out😩😩😩 I had a sweep four days ago! Lost a huge blood like blob! I assumed it was my mucus plug but looking it up, it looked more like a bloody show. Since then I've been loosing huge amounts of my mucus plug, a lot more then it says you lose? I read up two table spoons worth, over four days I have lost a lot more then that. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work! Between, sex, hot curries, long walks, nipple stimulation, pineapple (heard it works so gave it a shot) still nothing! I've been told castor oil but won't be risking that! Does a ball work? I tried to find one over the weekend but everywhere was closed due to Easter! What else can I try 😩😩😩 I'm really keen to avoid induction! Please help a very tired mum!

I vaguely remember something about evening primrose oil capsules (inserted...inside!), clove oil (maybe in a bath) and eating dates.

I was desperate to go into labour and tried all the things you mentioned plus the above.
(Would definitely avoid the castor oil though - will just give you the shits and you really don't want to have to deal with that!!)

I had my bedroom decorated 3 weeks before my due date with DS and moved all my furniture back into place as I wanted my bedroom tidy and was to impatient to wait until DH came home from work. I went into labour the next day and had a really easy birth with DS. Not saying I recommend lugging furniture around but maybe the exercise did the trick.

boymummys · 18/04/2022 16:39

Thank you both, I've scrubbed the whole house today, cleaned all the tiles down in the bathrooms 😩 ate another pineapple, surly he can't hold of much longer

Probably the last thing you feel like doing but nipple stimulation has to be for at least 3 hours a session to raise oxytocin enough! I tried everything too and ended up being induced. Losing your mucus plug is a good sign though, my sweeps didn't do anything! Good luck!

Sponge19 · 18/04/2022 17:06

I did everything I could to avoid induction. It would be one of my worst nightmares! Going up and down the stairs sideways is a good one, as is holding on to something such as the banister on the stairs and doing squats. Bouncing on your birthing ball. Then have a nice warm relaxing back followed by sex

Sponge19 · 18/04/2022 17:08

You can order the birthing ball on Amazon

isitbedyet · 18/04/2022 19:44

Both my boys got to 41+6!!!!!!! My little girl came a week early (thank the lord)
I just think boys are lazy and don't like to budge. I was eating pineapple, the hottest curry's, I didn't get off that ball, actually had sex (not for the fun of it 😂) but no nothing moved either of them (DC1&3) and I was pretty much running marathons up an down going on huge walks to the shops but NOTHING works haha
Just a sitting duck kind of feel
Good luck op x

boymummys · 18/04/2022 19:56

I've done nipple stimulation, the only thing I haven't tried is birthing ball, due to no where having stock and knowing my I'll order on Amazon, and I'll have him before it turns up haha.

@isitbedyet my first was a boy and he came on his due date, was hoping this one would be the same 😔 apparently not, but very stubborn, I've made an extra hot curry and just had some pineapple juice.

I'm getting so much pressure and " period pains" but nothing that screams, baby is coming!

3 drops of Clary Sage essential oil in a bath started contractions for me at 40 weeks. However I did read that it can be associated with strong contractions that don't necessarily help the labour progress and that's kind of like what happened to me, so I don't know if it's a good idea or not, best to read around and make up your own mind. Good luck.

Danikm151 · 18/04/2022 20:18

Obviously not going to help but bribe the baby with a fiver? 😂 they can hear you in there lol

Cocomalocoo · 18/04/2022 20:21

Up and down the stairs

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 18/04/2022 20:40

"knowing my I'll order on Amazon, and I'll have him before it turns up haha."

In fairness I can also recommend this as I ordered some new pads for my Tens machine and an inflatable hot tub that I could have at a nice cool and comfortable 20 odd degrees to get me through the predicted heatwave for my last few weeks of pregnancy both arrived after my DS Grin

Theresamagicalplace · 18/04/2022 20:46

I cleaned the kitchen floor on my hands and knees and woke up to contractions that night (although it was a looooong labour so maybe scrub some other bits too while you're trying it incase that helps the speed haha)

Organictangerine · 18/04/2022 20:48

Is this your first baby? Try expressing colostrum!

boymummys · 18/04/2022 21:00

@Organictangerine no I've got a five year old, in all fairness his labour was a nightmare!

Waters broke first 5 to midnight on a Sunday, no pains till 12 In the afternoon on Monday, went hospital at 5 in the afternoon, had him on his due day at half two the next morning. After 2 and a half hours of pushing, wouldn't even give me the epidural as I was to far gone to have it at the point i asked 😩

So not only was I praying this one would come sooner, I was hoping birth would be a little easier aswell 😬

@TheArtfulScreamer1

I didn't pack my bags with my first untill waters had broke, I'm tempted to unpack all my bags, bet he turns up then. It's like waiting for a phone call, you sit for hours they don't call, the minute you do something there ringing 🤔

@Danikm151 he's already grounded untill he's 18 for this😩

I've scrubbed everything today with the bit of energy I was given, just ate my curry, drinking more pineapple juice

@stripey1 I have another sweep tomorrow so I'll ask the midwife about this, thank you all

All else I can say is try YouTubing labour inducin workout , there is one with alot of good comments underneath from ‘Baby Weight TV’ channel name of video is ‘Activating Labour’. Basically lots of blood flow and squatting can help . Even though a lot of the things we are told don’t work (including sweeps - I have had 4 at this stage ! ) I think it preoccupies our minds to try the different things and keeps giving us hope. So have fun trying !

Scottishskifun · 19/04/2022 09:01

Know anyone with a newborn/3 month or less baby?
Holding a young baby releases oxytocin and can get labour started

boymummys · 19/04/2022 10:50

My full waters have just burst while cleaning my teeth and gagging 🤣🤣 thank you everyone should be here soon 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Lem0nDrizzle · 19/04/2022 12:01

Good luck hope all goes well!

stripey1 · 19/04/2022 15:06

All best wishes!

Heresafe · 23/04/2022 18:48

Oh I hope it goes So well for you ! I was coming on to agree that a study has indeed shown dates Do make a difference but you won’t need that now!

boymummys · 24/04/2022 16:47

He was born Tuesday night, after waters had gone they started to turn brown, went up for monitoring at half two Tuesday afternoon, was checked at half four but was still only 2cm, said they won't be checking me again untill half at, at that point I would need a drip to start labour off. Luckily didn't make it that far. Contractions started at 18.15 and he was born at 18.59! Considering they were telling me how huge he was going to be, estimated at around 9lbs, he was born 8 days late at 7lbs 3oz

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your son and with only 45 mins of contractions lucky you 😀

boymummys · 25/04/2022 15:43

@TheArtfulScreamer1

I didn't feel so lucky at the time lol, but I definitely do now! I was shouting asking for all sorts, they were slow with my first and these hit me like a ton of bricks, really fast and painful. Gas and air was a life saver, thank you very much, he's amazing♥️
