Second c-sec - much less bleeding?

Babyrinkadink · 30/03/2022 04:24

I had my first c-sec in 2020 and second a week ago.

After the first I bled heavily for 6 weeks - no major clots but whenever I would walk or breastfeed I’d soak through a pad.

This time the bleeding stopped at day 5 and hasn’t started again apart from some occasional light spotting.

Has anyone else had this?!

I had a natural birth with my first and had a csection last year with my second. I asked the midwives afterwards as my bleeding was significantly less than I expected. She said some surgeons do a bit of a sweep before they close up a csection and get out what they can while in surgery so its less bleeding afterwards if that makes sense.

Congratulations.

Initial bleeding is less because they clear out the blood before closing. However, ongoing bleeding is the same as with a vaginal birth as you're bleeding from the placenta site which is a wound around the size of a dinner plate. As with vaginal births, there's a range of what's normal and bleeding can last from a few days to 6 weeks. I bled for a week after my second and it tapered off.

Don't be alarmed if the bleeding starts again or ramps up if you start doing more. This can be normal.

Exactly the same for me.

Bleed for 11 weeks after my first ( heavily ) bleeding stopped after my second on day 3. I've prepared by buying and washing money on a lot of pads 😂
