Hi everyone,
I'm now at 12 weeks after a successful IVF frozen transfer, hooray!
I'm now debating where to give birth. It seems I need to make a decision ASAP as there is limited space in private wings.
The consultant who handled my IVF delivers at Portland. Initially, I thought I would stick with him since he did a great job with IVF, but I have some concerns about delivering at Portland vs a hospital. This doctor also charges above market, £15k just to have him show up before any of the other hospital fees.
Does anyone have recommendations for consultants at Lindo Wing?
I never thought I would be the type to shell out so much just to give birth. I realise millions of babies are delivered under NHS care and are absolutely fine. After attending my first three NHS appointments, an intake appointment with a midwife, a second with an OB (I was referred to an OB by an NHS GP because I need prescription blood thinner until 36 weeks per my IVF doctor's rec), and a third for a 12-week scan (which I had done again privately as well for more extensive testing) I don't feel comfortable under NHS care. Everyone I interacted with seemed bothered I was there taking up their time. I'm also scared about delivering with whatever doctor happens to be on call that day rather than someone I know and know their track record/qualifications.
On a more superficial level, I want to recover in a private room post-birth. Is it true this isn't available on the NHS (is there an upgrade option)? The other private perks, like champagne, tea and chef-prepared meals seem silly (I will 100% deliveroo sushi), but a private room and bathroom seems nice. That way my husband can spend the night too.
Any consultant recs are much appreciated!
